Bead rollers

If you make your own bead roller, how do you find out how much clay to
use in it? Is there some formula for it, or just trial and error?

Random tip: the 'measurements' for clay amount for the Amaco tri-bead
roller that Micheals carries is 1.5cm in the bicone slot (using the
standard 'fill half the bead roller, trim off the excess, then mark
where to cut' trick). This amount works for all the slots.

I'm not sure, you could take some measurements of the tube and see if
any ratios pop out at you, if it was me I'd go with trial and error
because I hate math ;-).

The little slots that keep the roller from going off to the side seem
like they would be hard to do in a home made roller. What were you
thinking of making it out of?
