In the olden days, before the US sizes were routinely measured in mm,

there
was a size 7 crochet hook. It was between what was then a G (size 6) and

an
H (size 8). I have one in my stuff - I probably got it in the early 70s.

I wonder if that was a 4.5 mm?

I'm at work now and don't have access to it to measure it. I'll try to
remember to do it later, (but no promises on the remembering thing, LOL!
After all, I'm old enough to remember and have a size 7 aluminum hook.)

;-)

- Lynne D.

LOL, I have one too!
Wait!! I have two of them! Both Boye's.....
I'll admit to being born in 1958.... Lynn D is probably a LOT younger than
that!
Grin!

Here is my ignorance (!) : As WE do not use letters for crochet hooks,
I did not understand the question.
I was SURE you gave us a RIDDLE! !!!LOL!!
(*What letter is a 4.5mm hook for crochet???*)
I thought: *It cannot be a "J", that will be too easy...
... I have to lurk a bit to see what the others think!!"
..... untill I read Noreens letter! ;-))
I wonder how often I answer to somethins you have not asked about!?!
BUT I am learning, thanks to YOU, ladies..and gentlemen ;-)

Lina! Hi! (saw your OK to my newbie-lurker post)
A 4.5mm hook is a US size "G"
Here's a link to a conversion chart:
http://www.yarnfwd.com/crochetconv.html
or:
http://www.yarnfwd.com/steelhookconv.html

and here is another:
http://home.fuse.net/SouthwestOhioCr...uild/hooks.htm

and another:
http://www.crochettreasures.com/conversion.htm

still another:
http://huggems.netfirms.com/conversion.html

My personal favorite is Yarn Forward, Roger is an RCTY member too.
My personal favorite HOOK *is* a 'g' too!
HTH,
Noreen

Yay...
So I guess I'll just use my G-string... I mean hook and make it that

way.
It's for a bunch of granny squares. (Sorry, couldn't resist the

G-string
comment...)

ROLLING on the floor, laughing!
Good for you... are you by any chance over-tired (new mommy) ????
LOL
Hugs,
Noreen

Very tired. Alena's teething and doesn't sleep for more than 10 minutes at
a time.

LOL, same as our Cher! And, just barely before my DH, born 1950 on
Christmas Eve!
Yes, I DO remember that size 7, and glad I have two of them, they're useful
when gauge isn't coming out 'just right'....
Hugs,
Noreen

A bit OT, but... speaking about age..
One of the boys at school (12yo) discussed fishing with me two days ago.
(The class were going out with a fishing boat , and we prepared the day
trying to recognise different fishes.)
-Aud, has that fish ALWAYS such a spot? he asked.
-Yes, I have been fishing for more than 50 years, and everyone I have got
has that spot!
-...more than 50......???? ...in fact, HOW old are you???
-I am 58, Wilhelm!!!!!
-OH MY!!! I was sure you would say 43!!
AUD ;-))
