Suggestions needed . . .
My granddaugher will be graduating from college (San Marcos, Texis) in
December if everything goes well! She would like a quilt made from reds & neutrals. Any suggestions for a pattern that would look really great with those two colors? Nothing complicated - I'm a lazy quilter! Right at the moment I'm drawing a complete blank! -- Donna in Idaho |

Here's a link to a scrappy king-sized quilt I made that had that basic
color scheme, although the neutrals tended toward golds in some places. http://home.windstream.net/caroledoyle/Krissyqult1.jpg Maybe that will start your creative thoughts flowing! And you know, if she's as smart as her Gramma, you KNOW she'll be grad-jee-gating on time & with honors!! She would like a quilt made from reds & neutrals. Well, gee ... one of my faves is Bear Paws or New York Beauty. While I think NYB is complicated (lots of piecing and curved seams) BP is pretty easy ... http://www.quilterscache.com/B/BearPawBlock.html Or http://www.quilterscache.com/B/BearP...tionBlock.html Or even http://www.quilterscache.com/B/BearTracksBlock.html The first two make 14 inch blocks, the third, 12 inch blocks. 14 inch blocks would get your quilt put together pretty fast ... And I think the contrast between the reds and the neutrals would be gorgeous!!! -- Happy quilting & quilty hugs!! Connie I've started a FREE eZine ... and I've posted *LOTS* of free applique patterns! Check it out! http://sewverycreative.blogspot.com/ ----- It's BACK!! AND they APOLOGIZED! LOL! |

Donna, any two-color layout would work with reds and neutrals. So, anything you've seen done in blue/white, green/white, black/white, etc., should do nicely. How about a sampler? Or how about doing a Double-T pattern in red/neutrals? That would hit the Texas idea, perhaps. -- Sandy in Henderson, near Las Vegas sfoster 1 (at) earthlink (dot) net (remove/change the obvious) http://www.sandymike.net |

How lazy are you feeling, Donna? There's just nothing as simple as the
Irish Chain and one would be gorgeous in your colors. If we can nudge you just a little bit further to HSTs, there are, more or less, something like 76 possibilities with the plover set of quilt blocks. I'm not a card-carrying pre-washing quilter - but for the reds, please do. Congratulations to your granddaughter in advance, a fantastic achievement.
If a very lazy, contemporary design appeals then have a look at http://www.byannie.com/free_patterns.html I rather like the effect the red and black has but I'm sure that stitched in different reds and neutrals it would look quite good. Thanks! I was scared to take it on in the beginning but I was
delighted with how it turned out. I has no Y-seams. It was made using Sara Nephew's method from her Building Blocks books. On Mon, 6 Aug 2007 19:38:08 -0400, "Gen" wrote: Oh my, that's beautiful! A ribbon star popped into my head - with red for the stars, a "dark neutral"
for the ribbons, and a light neutral for the background. -- Louise in Iowa nielandl@ msn dot com http://community.webshots.com/user/louiseiniowa "Donna Aten" wrote in message ...
