Default And MORE lentils

These are so much fun, its hard to stop! I made a simple bullseye cane of
pink and green for Lisa's beads and then used the leftovers on the oriental
styled ones. The gold ones are mud, practice, practice, practice..
Thank you for looking,
Diana

Aww.. thanks Candace!
This is just what I needed. Im going thru a dry spell in quilting, as in, I
dont want to sew right now, and needed to get back to clay. All it takes
sometimes is finding a fun new technique and an appreciative audience.
Are you planning to give this a shot? Whats really nice is if you dont like
how it turns out after you flatten it, you can give it a few more larger
swirls under the plastic and re-bicone the ball, then reflatten. Its
exciting... but now my hands are tired and Im almost out of mud. :-(

It's on my list of things to try, and soon! I need to find a decent piece
of glass first.
I, for one, am glad you're having a dry spell with quilting. It means more
lovely eye candy for me! hahahahahah!

I'm using a piece of plastic that came from a CD case. Its small enough to
fit my hands nicely, and the little edges help me hold it level.
Sooz is never going to let me forget I make beads you know. Hmmph... to
fiddly to sand and buff. Ill leave that up to you guys.
If you ever feel like IM on yahoo my thingy.. id? is lunamom44

sanding, buffing process theyre yours... just tell J thats its ok to give me
your addy. :-)

Lovely lentils, Diana!

Um, yeah, I found my way over here after my clay addiction became
overwhelming I tried some lentils, too, although mine look more like
buttons (the edges aren't flat enough). Right now, they're in the
tumbler. If they look half-way decent when done and polished, I'll post
pics.

Cheers,
Carla

I can hardly wait to see them!
Are you putting holes in before baking? I found that slowing at the very end
is helping me get nicely rounded beads. Sometimes Im getting ovals. Nice
shape but not what I'm going after.
This is great, the newsgroup seems to be picking up again! yay!

Yep, I put the holes in before they go in the oven. After I got them
shaped, I stuck them in the fridge for about 20 minutes, so they didn't
smoosh.

Cheers,
Carla

Yep, I put the holes in before they go in the oven.

I've found it much easier to keep the edges crisp by baking and then drilling.
A hand held works, in a pin vise--but my dremel and shaft are even better, with
it used as a drill press. I made a jig to hold the beads with one of those blue
sponge things meant for making stamps with a light bulb for heat---its a bit
tougher plastic than a regular sponge. I made a very careful slit, absolutely
straight and 90 degree angle to the flat bottom. Stick a bead in there and it
closes up to hold it while you drill, and fits several sizes of the lentils.

I like the gold ones. I have some just like them but without the white. LOL
When I have mud I usually just mix some translucent with sparklies in it and
they turn out pretty good.
