howdy,
tears for both happy and sad events missed here. too much to read back thru
and
tho i'm back online still busy with hardware on puter, ram this time.
i installed a new hard drive, formatted it, loaded it with win xp,
downloaded AVG, MS updates, adobe reader, yahoo toolbar and msg'r &
whatever else i need.
trying to find out somewhere how to get some of the data off the old hard
drive.
if govts and law enforcement can do it surely i can too. just gotta find out
how.
right now got old and new hard drive in the machine.
checking that the speed of new ram will be ok before i install it.
one day i shall return but dont hold your breath.

dont ask me to find stuff again, lost all favs, links, files in the crash
etc.
and dont ever buy a Western Digital hard drive. this was the second one in
this system.
first one lasted just 9 months, this one 23 months.
i had to replace this one myself (out of warranty), oh well.

if i can get any data off the old one i'll then install a second hard drive
alongside.
that, with the extra ram, ought to hold me for a while.
anyhow, thats life in the south pacific.
hugz all around,
jeanne

Jeanne, so sorry for your computer probs! Hope you can find and retrieve
the data off your old drive.

Thanks for the tip on Western Digital. I will add, Ricoh products have gone
right down the tubes. Had an RCA DVD recorder/player that lasted one year;
when I took it apart to investigate, turned out the Richoh r/w drive had
failed. We have two huge Ricoh copier/printer/fax machines at work, and the
tech is there to fix something almost daily. I believe Security is going to
issue him a badge. grin

And don't forget, those of you who contemplate purchasing a Dell: Customer
Service is now located in India or Bangladesh, and is very unresponsive.
The guarantees you may have had with a previous Dell are not part of the
program any more. I swear, my next computer will be a Mac!

Howdy!

Carolyn said, " I swear, my next computer will be a Mac!"

Come into The Light, Carolyn. ;-D

Aren't these foreign call centers something? Something terrible!
Last week I called a TEXAS electricity company to ask why I had received
2 bills, one a penny more than the other; the woman "over there" did
not understand me-- and I wasn't doing much better w/ her accent...
oh, pardon me, I'm the one w/ the accent, right? LOL
She told me there must be a mistake, pay either one; I paid them both,
(fairly) sure the company will credit any over-payment (they have in the
past). Oy!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch,
come on over & play w/ my Mac; you'll want one! ;-D
