I just found out what purl is in knitty.
I was just got to watch this new show called Knitty Gritty and there
was a woman on it showing people how to make a flap hat. She got to the point where she told about about the purl stitch and I saw what that was b/c I watch really hard at the television screen. Purl means two stiches together. It like saying do a double crochet but only in the stick way. I say her take a yarn wrap a round one stic and slide two on the other. Am I right about that or did I seen it wrong? Pam-Doggirl3 |

I just found out what purl is in knitty.
From what I understand she was probably doing a slip stitch decrease
(purlwise). A purl stitch is essetially a backwards knit stich. You move your working yarn to the front of your work, and then go into the back of one stitch. Here is a site that has videos that can help you - http://www.knittinghelp.com/knitting...iques/purl.php Hope that helps. Was it the Camoflauge earflap hat? I just made one of those (finished it this past Saturday) for my Father in law for his Elk hunt in October :-D ILovemyDoggie. wrote: I was just got to watch this new show called Knitty Gritty and there was a woman on it showing people how to make a flap hat. I just found out what purl is in knitty.
The host of knitty gritty, Vickie Howell, has some how to's on her
website that are well illustrated. She has shows how to purl both ways, English and Continental. Here's the website, just click on the method that you use. I suggest trying the purl stitch out both ways to see what is more comfortable for you. I have a friend that knits English and purls Continental, it's all about what works for you - http://www.vickiehowell.com/howto.html |

no, no! purl does NOT mean 2 stitches together! She may have purled 2
stitches together, just like you can knit 2 stitches together, but putting 2 together is only a form on decreasing or used to make a special pattern, it is not the stitch itself. With knitting, you put the needle from the bottom up on the left stitch, so both points are sticking up. With purling, you bring the yarn to the front first, then put the point DOWN thru the stitch on the left needle and wrap the yarn from the top down. You did not mention if you knit continental or American style, so that will add to the confusion in trying to explain. I knit American style (yarn thrower) Here are some pics I found for purling: http://www.needlepointers.com/displa...a%2bstitch.htm If the link breaks, just go to their main help page and scroll down until you see "how to purl a stitch" (not the lefty version, unless you are a lefty): http://www.needlepointers.com/ShowAr...aspx?NavID=602 I see you say you can't watch video -- -Cozy http://blogs.delphiforums.com/n/blog...g=cozy_at_home Happiness doesn't come from having things, it comes from *having things you can find* "ILovemyDoggie." wrote in message ups.com...
