OT Did I ever mention...
....that I hate nutgrass? Well I hate nutgrass. A lot. And if anybody is considering getting rid of a creeping charlie by just tossing it outdoors, please reconsider. I would suggest pounding it and the dirt it is in up with holy water, spreading it out to dry, burning it several times until it is reduced to a microscopic ash, and then casting it over three seperate bodies of salt water. Maybe use some iron and silver in the process somewhere. NightMist Why yes I have been weeding the garden. How did you guess? -- The wolf that understands fire has much to eat. |

I feel your pain. My monster weed is calendula, which would be lovely if it
had a better attitude. Can't even throw it on the compost -it just keeps growing! Roberta in D "NightMist" schrieb im Newsbeitrag ... ...that I hate nutgrass? Well I hate nutgrass. A lot. Nutgrass, paper myrtle, jointgrass (not THAT kind! ;-) purslane, the list
goes on. I wonder if your exorcism/cure for nutsedge would work on paper myrtle. As bad as dollarweed (which I also hate AND have copious quantities of) and turns into a TREE!! It has runners underground and just pops up here and there. The last time I really got after it in the yard, I cut our phone and dsl line... Debi (maybe napalm.....?) As a farm wife I have learned a little bit about some. Nutsedge will grow
again even if only 1 small thread of a root is near growing material. Pull the stuff put it in a brown paper bag and toss it in the dumpster. do not put in the compost pile the seed survive somehow. Right now in the middle of SD and worst drought since the 30's creeping jenny or creeping buttercup or what ever is the only green thing we have right now, it has a root system that can go 10-15 foot deep, in the field a couple years of strong attacks with Roundup might make it a little less aggressive. Good luck on the weeds. Audrey "Debi Matlack" wrote in message .net... Nutgrass, paper myrtle, jointgrass (not THAT kind! ;-) purslane, the list goes on. "NightMist" wrote in message ... ...that I hate nutgrass? Well I hate nutgrass. A lot. Oh, I hear ya. Mine, at the moment, is chameleon plant. I needed something to fill in one of my beds. Looked harmless at my friends house. It has taken over every flower bed in the yard. Spreads like wildfire. I will never get rid of it. Plus it reeks and the dogs love rolling in it. Cindy |

Maybe use some iron and silver in the process somewhere. That method might also work on Virginia Creeper, Chickweed, and Poke weed, but I need to add something stronger to help with the Bermuda Grass. I really hate Bermuda grass. Ya might as well just call it "mutant green wires" as it's nothing but runners both under and on top of the dirt. We are now going to be trying a tried and true method for dealing with the nutgrass. Find something useful to do with it. Works every time. For example, dandelions and chicory are blessed hard to find in our yard. We eat 'em, so of course they vanished. We have thus far discovered that nutgrass is a relative of papyrus, so we will play with paper making and basket weaving. We have also discovered that the tubers are very edible, so we will save some out and do some culinary experimentation. All it will take is for one family member to decide they are very nummy, or one recipe to be improved by the addition, and Poof! it will vanish. NightMist I think it was Culpepper who said that a weed is a plant for which you have not yet found a use. -- The wolf that understands fire has much to eat. |
