Colors, Friends and Sashing?
For over a year I've been slowly making a sawtooth star for one of my very
dearest friends. She likes pink, a lot. Her husband, who IMNSHO is a bit of a jerk, likes purple. Since I began this--with the color scheme well in place (it just sorta evolved)--he's been more of a jerk. The stars have 9p in the center, surrounded by pink to make the square, and then the star points are purple. The background fabric is a delicate cream floral with white, purple, pink and green. The blocks are about 8 1/2 inches. I want to sew 4" sawtooth stars as connecting blocks for the sashing (hope I'm describing this right...) but I'm having a heck of a time finding the right color. Purple may in fact look the best but he's a jerk! SHE's my friend and she likes pink. I've tried green but it just doesn't work. Tried white and it disappeared. Could always dispense w/ the smaller stars and just add sashing and sew it together--but I like those little guys; they're a lot of fun to sew and if I ever get this right it will in fact be a *really* pretty quilt. Advice? TIA muchly. Dogmom |

I like that kind of sashing, too -- much more interesting than just plain,
or sashes w/ cornerstones. Not sure about your color scheme, though. What about green sashes, purple centers, and pink points as a sort of reverse of the blocks themselves? Nann--thanks! That's a nice idea--I always like working in reverse, too! But
I'm afraid that for this quilt it'd be a little overwhelming. Dogm' "Nann Hilyard" wrote in message ... What about a different pink? I have heaps of gorgeous pinks here in the
stash. You could come this way and try them out. Well. Maybe not. I don't think there's a bridge left between your home and mine. But - if pink is your friend's color, I'll bet you can find one that will be good contrast - brighter, softer, something. Hang in there, you can do it. One will call to you. Polly |

So go with purple; it's not like the jerk "owns" purple. Or does he? ;-) Ragmop/Sandy "dogmom" wrote in message ... Nope he most certainly doesn't! I can prove it - mm-hmm I can. Yep. I
went out today handbag shopping (almost as bad as swimwear shopping but not quite). As you know my last *decent* handbag disappeared into the hands of those theives in Shenzen, China before I even saw it! So, armed with $61.25 in gift vouchers (left over birthday money) for Myer (large Saks-like dept store) I hunted....and hunted......$300......$229.....$450 (YIKES).....$100 (Okay much more my price range). I was getting desperate - not only were they waaay to dear, there were none that I liked. Then I saw it.....Clearance shelves. Go on, admit it, you just love the clearance rack, your heart beats faster, your eyes lose that glazed look, your old decreipt body becomes more sprightly.....Got it! The one handbag that leapt out at me (literally when I knocked over another one). Nitty Gritty first - the price tag reads $120. Nuts! Going to put it back I see a little red sticker....it can't be....$39.95 - yes someone must have been nuts. Now to do the physical. I transfer my currernt bag contents to the new one. Plenty of room for the diary, phone wallet, 2 sets of keys, other bits - even more when I manage to pull out all that scrunched up paper! Fits nicely over shoulder - two handles not one but I can live with that. Feels extra yummy (suede with pretend crocodile print on handles and top edgy bit. Zipper in middle section works okay. Yep looks really good - no one will be able to take off with it as it is the only one I can see like it. The best thing is the colour - PURPLE!!!! Yaaaaay It's mine! The end..... -- Sharon from Melbourne Australia (Queen of Down Under) http://www.geocities.com/shazrules/craft.html (takes a while to load) http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/shazrules/my_photos (same as website but quicker) " Ellison" wrote in message .. . Thanks, y'all--you always come through. I see happily now that he doesn't
own purple--but I'll keep tryin' pink, per Polly's suggestion, first. And Polly, there's always some kind of bridge leading to the important things.... Dogm' "Sharon Harper" wrote in message ... Sharon, congratulations on scoring a bargain!
Don't forget the Law of Compensatory Income: because you spent only $39.95, not $120, on your purse, you now have $80.05 to spend on something else.
