Nine patch quilt blocks
The other day a neighbor leant me her video by Marti
Mitchell. It didn't show a title as my neighbor taped it herself and the title picture was not taped. Although the video was outdated by the clothing Marti wore, the tips were excellent. I learned a lot there, especially about nine patch quilt blocks. She used strips, of course, then she also used a 3" piece sewn down one side of the strips for an alternate sort of look. She said that to do the nine patch she was working on, to remember 2 measurements--2 and 4 1/2. Two for the size of strips to cut, and 4 1/2 for the width of the sewn strips. Marti said that I should buy fabric in 27" increments. I understand this as that is what the normal size of quilts a 27, 54, 81, 108. Now, what I want to know is, how would I figure the total fabric needed if I wanted to make let's say an 81" square quilt? I'm not going by any design book; I've tried that already and I'm unhappy with it. How would I figure how much fabric to buy? Is there some kind of calculator or would someone have a formula? Thank you. |

Beth, do you have a particular pattern in mind for the 81" square quilt?
We'll need to know the pattern and how many fabrics you'll be using. -- Alice in NJ www.ourcyberfamily.us "In prosperity our friends know us; in adversity we know our friends."
