Default strange thread tension problem

Hi everyone

I have Brother PS-31 sewing machine and I've been having weird lower
thread tension problems. The problem only seems to occur with straight
stitch or that's where it's most visible. I can never get the bobbin
thread tension right, it's either too strong or too weak. I've tried
to change the tension on the bobbin case lots of times but it just
never looks right. Could there be a problem with the bobbin case?

Any suggestions appreicated!

Thanks,
Vilna

What are the symptoms? Most problems are caused by top thread tension
maladjustment: loops on the bottom: top thread too loose. Loops on the
top: top thread too tight.

Hi

When the thread tension is meant to be correct (no loops form either
on top or underneath)the stitch underneath looks wonky. Like the
thread isn't tight enough (but no loops). But when I increase the
bobbin case tension the bobbin thread will be too tight and loops
appear. I've played with it so many times and it just doesn't work.
Sometimes the stitch starts out perfect but very soon it will be back
to wonky underneath.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Vilna

Are you using a heavier thread in the bobbin case? This will cause that
look.

I'm using the same thread in the bobbin case as on top (good quality polyester).

Change the thread to cotton covered polyester or cotton, both top and bottom
and change the needle..make sure the flat side is positioned where it should
be according to your machine.
