January Swaps and Mini Round Robin
Hi All,
I am going to have a blast in the new year after the holidays! My quarterly Fat Quarter One-to-One Swap will be going on as usual, I will be organizing a miniature round robin, AND I will be hosting a centralized velvet squares swap. This last one came about because I am on a Crazy Quilting email list. I saw this item in a Marchall Field's catalog (NAYY) and loved it, but knew I could make it rather than buy it. It isn't strictly crazy quilting, but does harken to it quite a bit http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B0...CLZZZZZZZ_.jpg I also knew my velvet selection was a bit limited and thought swap! The members of the CQ list love the idea, so velvet a'swapping we will go! I thought I'd give you ladies a heads up because I know some of you like to crazy quilt as much as sane quilt and might want in on the swap action. There are no hard and fast details yet other than the squares will be 7 inches, must be velvet or velveteen (no stretchy velvet) and you'll send in a square per participant (perhaps 2 per if the turnout is small). No color rules. Any color goes! That's it for now, just giving you a heads up on all three activites, but particularly on the last one, since the fabrics for that one are on sale right now in the fabric stores. Melissa in NJ |

Wow, I will be interested in joining in if possible. Sounds fun just
remember postal times from down under are sometimes a tad tardy. Occasionally things go very s..l..o..w... from here. Since 9/11 a lot has changed. trish in Sydney .. |

In all my quilting experiences I have not participated in a Round Robin
quilt. I think it is because I fear I would blow it! But maybe this is the time. Because everyone here is so friendly and would understand if I did mess up (design wise) I would be forgiven. So count me in when you put together the details for the new year. juliasb MelissaInNJ wrote: Hi All, I am going to have a blast in the new year after the holidays! I participated in my first in the Asymmetrical one. Wow what fun. It really
stretches your creative juices, because other than your own center, you don't have total control of the design, and your work has to "work" with the other people's work. I learned so much for having been in one and recommend them to everyone. The one in the new year will be in miniature, so maybe not as daunting as a full sized one...or more so! Hi Melissa!
That Marshall Field quilt is similar to one I admired today in JC Penney's. That one had decorator type fabric of several textures and colors. The accent lines were narrow braiding. DH and I both liked it and I mentioned that I'd look out for a good sale on braiding ... hopefully in a remnant bin or in a thrift store. I've got plenty of velveteen and some decorator fabric too.
