That is an important part of the tour to me!
We alway meet lots of czechs who
are going *home* from Norway or Sweeden.

They have learned me lots about their country
and how it is to leave a country unwillingly!
Some of them left in 48, and many in 68.
They have family and *new lives* in SW. or Norw. now,
but have often parents, aunts , uncles or siblings back in Chech.

May be we should meet THERE one day?

you did - fell in love with the country and the city. I had already
grown
to
love the Chez people as I had worked for a film company here for a
few
years
and everyone except me were Chezs - which is one reason we just felt
we
had
to see their country. We were privileged to return in 1991 - and
Oh
what
a difference ! We felt on a high all day to see the transformation.
I
think it did me good to see it under the iron curtain though, to be
able
realise what they had gone through and the joy of their release.

Yes, you guessed right. The drivers applied the "black market"
change.
It was the main "business" of taxi drivers.
I did that both in Czechoslovakia and USSR, I mean, I changed at the
black market, I don´t remember the rate). I didn´t want to give my
money to government. One could object that the money could go for
not
so
clear pourposes (even if usually it was for "Western luxuries" as
buying
a fridge or a washing machine), but I felt more criminal giving
money
to
the regimes.
I was there in 1984 and it looked EXACTLY like one could imagine
Orwell´s book. I felt in love with that country anyway and returning
to
Prague past year was a bit of returning home...

Monica thank you for passing the slivovitz to me !! I only ever had one
and it was in Nuremburg in January with snow everywhere and freezing cold
and on our return to our hotel after a day in the snow the lady at the front
desk said " you two need a drink" I have never felt cold since - 19 year
later !! But I remember it tasted very nice God Bless Gwen

drink
all the slivovitz. I'll stick to beer. )

love to join you there. The restaurant *Kampa Park* is managed by a
Norwegian ;-) Thet have a marvellous chef(not Norwegian)
BUT I have never been there! My DH has been there several times, when school

The restaurant I mean isn=B4t on Kampa square, but just after the Kampa=20
little park, on the river side. I don=B4t remind the Czech name, but it=B4=
s=20
the restaurant of fishermen association. Hope they opened again after=20
horrible inondation a year ago.
I found this on the lovely Prague guide by time-out, an Australian=20
publisher specialized in turist guides!

I strongly recommend once in Prague NOT to try absint (I don=B4t remember=
=20
the Czech name, but everyone knows there). It was long time forbidden=20
in Communist era and now it=B4s produced again as "intellectuals" alcohol=
=20
drink. It=B4s very dangerous, slivovits it=B4s nothing compared to that!

a sweet herb liquer, tasting "ginger nuts" !!!

OH ! yes I agree Prague is just a real place for all senses but as for the
