So, how much do ya hate me? A whole lot, or just a little? The machine
head is EC, cabinet simple, somewhat battered. Must take it for a test
drive. It's a wee sports model.

Of course I do not hate you Cea! I am
glad YOU were the one to 'rescue' this
one. So, if you decide not to keep it,
remember, I live just across the Roads.

They are great little machines. So heavy that they aren't very
portable. For someone with little but dedicated space they are
a great option. I have owned them over the years. My favorite
little 99 is a Spartan. I have 2 of those. Mine weren't free.
$10 is about as much as I'll spend on a 99 but the first I saw
and bought years ago I gave $30 for.

Don't hate you at all; I've got two, both free. Nice little machines
but heavy as a boat anchor; don't really use mine at all because of the
weight....

Gee, I'd have thought the 99K would be
worth more ... but that is just a guess.
I think I will go to Beach after Labor
Day ... when it is not so crowded
through the Tunnel. I hope we can meet,
and you can show me a shop or two. I've
only been to one LQS over there. PAT

So, when are you coming to the beach?? You could plan a S E X (hope
I typed that right...) trip, or a day of basking on the beach. It's
almost cool enough to do that, in my weather book, without frying one's
brains.

Most vintage sewing machines have come down in value in the last couple
of years Pat. Even featherweights are a lot less than they used to be.
There really are a lot of machines around if you think about everyone
sewing back in days gone by. I have a whole mess of machines I paid more
for than they are worth now. Never paid a whole lot unless it was
something I really wanted so I am ok with them : )

There doesn't seem to be any reduction in vintage featherweight
value around this neck of the woods. Interestingly enough, (IMHO), the
worth of the machine is artifically created, by quilters, who love it
for the room under the head for rolled quilts, and the quality of the
straight stitch. The value is purely utilitarian.
Problem is, non-sewers see the prices on FWs, and make the rash
assumption that ALL machines are therefore of great value. I've
recently seen some ridiculous prices on garden variety older machines.

I'm surprised to hear that; IMHO FWs have very little room under the
head I use mine FWs for piecing but never machine quilting as
they're too small and lightweight, and move around on the table if the
piece i'm working on requires some struggling with.

I use mine for piecing too, and I have quilted on the Elna Lotus (same
sort of size), but it was a kitty sized quilt! They are both great
little machines, and excellent for piecing and dressmaking, but not so
good for quilting big stuff or making heavy coats and curtains.

For some reason Featherweights are a lot cheaper (about 1/2 the price)
through eBay then they are locally here - when they come up for sale
they're typically $400-450, and that's in yucky shape....

Lots of people have inflated ideas as to what their machines are
worth...I went to a garage sale a few weeks ago and saw a very used &
abused Touch & Sew 778 they were asking "$150 Firm" for...

At a recent quilt show I went to there were three vintage machine
vendors who were asking VERY inflated prices on their machines. But
they were selling....so go figure

I like @free to good Home - Buyer Collects!' myself. And that's for
rehoming ones I have to let go as well as getting them to roost here...

A vintage machine, cleaned and oiled, in tip-top condition, with a case
(especially one of the wooden ones), a full set of attachments, and a
manual will command a much higher price than a neglected machine needing
bits and pieces.
