Default Wondering about Webhosting

Hi everyone!

I'm getting ready to take the plunge to get a REAL domain and website going
again. I have an appointment with my bank this afternoon to talk about
setting up a merchant account. I really want to wean myself from Paypal and
possibly Ebay eventually (at least the store aspect). I don't have a problem
with the Ebay store, exactly, I just know there are folks out there who
don't want to use Ebay and quite honestly why should they get the cut if I
can go it on my own? Obviously a slow process but worth considering, I hope.

Anyway. Step 1 is obviously registering my domain. Ideally I wanted
Desertdreamer.com but that's already taken. .biz is unavailable too. I
thought maybe short & sweet was the best way to go, so I have a few other
possibilities in mind. A local friend mentioned godaddy.com for registration
and webhosting and I'm wondering if anyone here has experience with them?
They seem to be pretty professional, I like the private domain info service
they have, and their hosting is inexpensive with a lot going for it. I NEED
a site no matter what, because the space I get from my ISP is dwindling
rapidly.

Thanks for any input.

Karen, I have been with Internet Connection for several years now. Cost is
reasonable, space is huge, and they are extremely helpful and tolerant of my
learning curve!!

There's a link from my webpage about web pages to them if this doesn't work:

http://internetconnection.net/

or If I remembered that wrong, try:

Karen,
I have used GoDaddy since 7/2002 and have been really satisfied. Most of my
business is word of mouth and I haven't promoted my web site very heavily so
I don't have a huge amount of traffic but so far everything they provide has
been adequate. Their service is good and my web pages on their server seems
to load pretty quickly (on my machine anyway). If there are any other
specific questions you want to ask I would be glad to help in any way I can.

Avoid the .biz and .info -- the spammers have discovered them, and lots of
spam filtering software blocks email containing .biz or .info.

I got mine from nameroute.co.uk - they also have a .com. They're very
reasonably priced.

My domains are now (all) registerd through Godaddy. As far as domain
hosting, I gotta recommend my husband's hosting biz. He offers a lot for
the money - the link is in my sig.

There are online merchant account systems you can use for various fees -
probably less expensive that getting a merchant account through a bank. Jon
checked in to these a couple of weeks ago and I"m sure he'd share his
information with you.

I use GoDaddy for registration, and it's great) It has been featured in
many tech magazines, & I have yet to hear a bad thing about 'em (even their
domain transfer process was smooth as fast). For hosting, we use RackShack
(link below). It's got WAY more space than I could even imagine using!
Between my DH and I, and our friend with her own BOOMING online store, we're
still not even at a fraction of the usage we could be. I like that, because
it gives me room to play, and when I have a sale, I don't have to worry
about the sudden surge of 4 times as many shoppers at once crashing my
site;o) The up/download speeds are incredible, and we've never had downtime
due to bugs or maintenance.

RackShack for hosting:
www.ev1servers.net

Also, I would stay away from the other extensions (.org, .biz, .net).
Extensive research has shown that they get WAY less traffic than the same
domain registered as .com. Maybe you use DesertDreamerBeads.com? or
DesertofDreams.com? or DesertDreamerGlass? I didn't go check if these
names were available, just off the top of my head)

I have been using www.dayanahost.com ... it's pricing is per year what
others is about per month. Of course, you really need to know your html,
because they don't really have the help. But they have all the bells and
whistles, as far as I can tell...
