Got a little cold earlier this week. Congested, tight breathing. Got
out the nebulizer and the Albuterol on Tuesday - haven't needed either
of them in months. Nebulizer quit working on Thur. Drugstore doesn't
carry them. Call pulmonologist office - assistant useless. Got on
line, ordered one over the net, it will arrive maybe Tueday.
Thought I could handle it, but lunchtime Sunday told dh "Sunday 1 p.m.,
most people will be watching sports on tv, maybe I could get quick
breathing treatment in the ER." went there, not too busy, got a
breathing treatment, said thank you very much, bye, and they told me Oh
No, we have more tests to do. taken further back, x-rays, IV etc.

Soooooooo. Here I am on the 7th floor of the hospital, with
antibiotics, steroids and I'm not sure what the other one is going in
IV, plus they have given me so much inhaled treatment I am totally dizzy
and cannot stand unaided.

Got dh to go home and bring me some toiletries, change of undies,
another book, and,OF COURSE, the laptop.

Hope to go home in the morning.

Olwyn Mary in New Orleans.

I hope you feel better very soon and can go home.

You might want to ask the doctor about keeping an Albuterol rescue inhaler
on hand for a time like that when your nebulizer dies. It's not very
expensive and usually they have an expiration date that's at least a couple
of years from the date you buy it. It's not like the deep treatment you get
with the neb, but it will make you feel better for enough time to help you
to get to the doctor without any panic setting in.

Dear Olwyn,

As much as I know you must hate being in the hospital, I am still glad
that they caught what you had and that you are getting treated for it.

I hope you get better soon! Sounds like you are being taken good care of
anyway. But it must have been quite a shock to go in for a little treatment
and ended up being kept at the hospital overnight.

Feel better soon!

Well, the doc came in this morning and said "No, you're staying at least
one more night, we'll see how you are in the morning". And this in a
town where the few hospitals which are in use are way overcrowded at times.

Oh well.

Don't take it so lightly, Olwyn. Respiratory problems in senior
citizens can be VERY dangerous.

Dear Olwyn Mary,
I'm so glad DH got you to the ER. Not being able to breathe well is so
scary, she says as she uses her nebulizer. Don't rush yourself home. You
know you need the treatment and the rest. I hope your new nebulizer gets
delivered so that you have it when you get home. They are hateful things
but not breathing is even more so.
Prayers on the way.

If you're getting antibiotics, that means the lab test showed positive
for a bacterial infection -- which you don't need! So kick back and get
rid of it before you go home. I hope the food's tasty.

Well, if he is keeping you in, there must be a good reason. Relax, and
let
them wait on you. Nap when you want to, and read, and knit. Sounds
good to me right now!
