OT important cancer info
Hello everyone, I received this letter from our youngest daughter and know
that some of you may have gotten this information already (I have seen it on the news about half a year ago), however it is so important as well as basic, that I thought it good to pass it on again. Els Subject: FW: CANCER WARNING - PLEASE READ Johns Hopkins has recently sent this out in their newsletters. This information is being circulated at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. Dioxin Carcinogens cause cancer. Especially breast cancer. Don't freeze plastic water bottles with water in them as this also releases dioxin from the plastic. Dr. Edward Fujimoto from Castle hospital was on a TV program explaining this health hazard. (He is the manager of the Wellness Program at the hospital.) He was talking about dioxins and how bad they are for us. He said we should not heat our food in the microwave using plastic containers. This applies particularly to foods that contain fat. He said that the combination of fat, high heat and plastics releases dioxin into the food and ultimately into the cells of the body. Dioxin are carcinogens and highly toxic to the cells of our bodies. Instead, he recommends using glass, Corning Ware, or ceramic containers for heating food. You get the same results ...without the dioxin So such things as TV dinners, instant ramen and soups, etc., should be removed from the container and heated in something else. Paper isn't bad but you don't know what is in the paper. Just safer to use tempered glass, Corning Ware, etc. Remember when some of the fast food restaurants moved away from the foam containers to paper? The dioxin problem is one of the reasons. To add to this: Saran wrap placed over foods as they are nuked, with the high heat, actually drips poisonous toxins into the food, use paper towels instead. Please pass this on to your family & friends, & those who are important in your life. Thank you for listening -- hate spam not welcome |

Els dear, I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings, but please ask your
daughter to check out www.snopes.com before forwarding anything like this. Take a look here... http://www.jhsph.edu/Press_Room/arti...n_dioxins.html http://www.snopes.com/toxins/plastic.htm Well Millie, you may very well be correct. However all my information on cancer comes from people in the know. I will get some from my family Dr, some from the nurse or technician who every year gives me a mammogramme, some from the news media, or say from Family Circle or Womand Day. I am sure that not all of these sources will have it correct. The nurse, who passed this information on to my daughter, works in a very large Toronto hospital, where they were brieved on this as inportant information. I think when I change using glass for plastic, I can't go very much wrong. Also we do not deplete our foccile sources, by using so much plastic which end up in garbage dumps and far away beaches....(Last National Geographic), so for me it is not a scare story...more common sense. Hi Els.....thanx for this info.....but our health people have been warning
about this for at least four years...little spokes people, I remember hearing about it oh maybe longer than four years ago. ALSO... alot of foodstuffs come in plastic containers....ie Milk orangejuice and the like..over here you can buy small bottles of orange. Now most if not all of these containers are biodegradeable, and after so long they release chemicals which allow them to disintergrate... and some people re-use these bottles.....DON'T..... some kids have their orange or blackcurrant juice's made up and put back into these bottles for kids to carry here there and everywhere... If your child or you are one of these STOP NOW... nobody has said that it is dangerous.....but when my dh told me about it alarm bells rang..... cos better safe than sorry. cheers....Cher "Els van Dam" wrote in message ... Cher, I agree, and changing back to the use of other materials, such as glass ware, is not a bad thing at all, because that is how I was brought up and we did fine with out all that plastic anyway. Less garbage, and less loss of fosil fuels as well. I know that several people here think that this waring about dioxin is all hearsay, and unproven. I went to the websites that were recommended to read about these disproving factors, but did not see or read any solid backup for this claim. So I will err on the side of caution, less plastic is better. Els -- hate spam not welcome |

I try and use baggies as little as possible (except to hold yarn in and then resuse them and reuse them!), and for things like coffee and soda, I use a refillable mug or cup. As far as microwaving, I hadn't heard about the plastic scare, but if I can't use a microwave safe cover, then I will use wax paper anyway (it's cheaper!) Karen in MN |
