Washing Corduroy
I believe it would ravel enough, Denise. What I'm not sure of is whether
you could get it to quit. Some time ago, one of us mentioned that she had made a quilt that shed more than a highly motivated QI. (and for years and years.) Polly "Denise in NH" wrote in message ... I have lots of corduroy to eventually use up also. Has anyone ever done a "raggy-edge" square quilt with corduroy? I've done it with cotton and also with flannel, but was wondering if corduroy would ravel enough to look right. I thought I might use up my cord with scraps of flannel plaids for something rustic looking. Denise http://community.webtv.net/DeniseJG/ My QI |

Nope, my corduroy left overs are either
long gone, or very well hidden. I did find a few other goodies though, so I had some fun. =) PAT Pat in Virginia wrote: Debra: I MIGHT have a really nice (basic) dark green. I will check and let you know. PAT |

I'll use that with the pink corduroy when I get around to that one. I've gone in that room to raid the stash 4 times in the last 2 days. So far I have not found the fabrics I am looking for, but I always find something that will work even better. Fabrics that I didn't know existed. This is a little weird, like the stash is alive and breeding in there or something. Debra in VA See my quilts at http://community.webshots.com/user/debplayshere |

Thank you for looking in your stash, Pat. Please forgive my lapse. I was distracted by the search for ugly fabrics to send to Polly, and the discovery that some really ugly yardage turns out lovely when cut down to a 6.5 inch block. Using 'ugly' fabric was Washing Corduroy
That is soooo true, Debra! Those 'ugly'
fabrics often are real Cinderellas in a quilt. When I see an intriguing piece, I often fold it down (or otherwise isolate a piece) to about 6" triangle just to get an idea how it would work in a quilt. (BTW: Nothing to forgive ... you have a good day now!) PAT in VA/USA Debra wrote: Oops, I completely lost my manners. Thank you for looking in your stash, Pat. Please forgive my lapse. DH says it has to do with scale. Perhaps shopping with a picture framing mat in hand would help. A white mat with a 3X5 or 5X7 hole in it should work nicely. Yes, it would have something to do with
scale, but I think value and contrast also contribute to success or failure of a particular fabric. I.E.: sometimes a lovely green will look dingy gray when mixed with other colors; sometimes a harsh red will tone down when cut into small pieces. I think these little surprises help make patchwork so appealing to me! PAT in VA/USA Debra wrote: On Thu, 16 Nov 2006 09:04:01 -0500, Pat in Virginia wrote: That is soooo true, Debra!
