Default Bernina 2500dce vs. 2500dcet? Anyone know?

I have received a Bernina 2500dce from a friend and cannot find much
information about it. I have found info about the 2500dcet, but I
don't know the difference between the two. Anyone know?

I typed Bernina 2500dce over at WebCrawler and got a 2 page list of
interesting places. I didn't dig any deeper but did notice that someone
began a review with 'is not good for a beginner'. There's a Bernina serger
here that does lovely stitching but it takes me about 45 minutes to thread
that rascal on a good day. Polly

You must have MY serger Polly. I can almost get an aerobic workout trying
to thread it. I work up a sweat almost every time!

Goodness!! Don't unthread your serger!! Rethreading, as you've noted, is a
PITA. I cut the thread I'm done with off at the cone, load new cones, tie
the two threads together, cut the needle threads close to the eyes and pull
the looper threads through. Then, pull the needle threads through, and
rethread just the needle eyes. Easy-peasy! The thread that gets "wasted" is
worth the lack of swearing. LOL

That's what I usually try to do. But sometimes.......rethreading is
necessary and it's not fun. But, you're right....tieing off to a new thread
and pulling through is certainly the way to avoid some nasty swearing!.

Default OT Katrina rebuild

Hey Polly Esther:

Coming your way tonight.
I'm part of a small team from ALdersgate Methodist Church in Alexandria
heading to Gulport. We will be staying at Camp Love in Gulfport
(currently part of Nugent UMC), 13183 John Clark Rd, Gulfport MS 39503.

5 days

first on the list of to bring were plastic/rubber gloves, cotton work
gloves, face mask and safety glasses!
tasking is uncertain but we think we are doing rebuild on houses.

And since our purpose is doing good wors, I'd appreciate it if you'd
keep your gators over east of Biloxi. I don't think they would be very
good at hauling sheet rock. Tails might be good at taking out but not
replacing.

and maybe if we are very good, they might even let us off the yard to go
to mary mahoney's for dinner?
after all the publicity she got from anderson cooper, maybe its quieter
than now!

You will be quite safe from the Gators. The adventurous ones are off to
Florida enjoying a high time with the spring break folks. Seeing the
Mississippi coast will just break your heart. Everything that was old and
beautiful is gone - just gone. Except in our hearts. There's a group in
Pascagoula now that aims to build 100 houses in 100 days. That scares us
more than Katrina did. Our temps are varying from 60° to 90° so you'll want
to pack some clothes for both. Bless you for making a difference. Polly

When you do this, please pull the thread out of the tension disks. Or
loosen the tensions to "0". Very few sergers automatically "unlock" the
tension when you raise the pressure foot, like sewing machines do.
Pulling against the tension mechanism can cause some problems with the
tension holding, eventually. G
BTW, if you are careful and tie a square knot in the needle threads you
*may* be able to pull the thread right through the eyes of the needles.
G but you have to be careful there.

Pati, in Phx (who does have one serger that releases the tension when
the pressure foot is raised, and one that doesn't. And has done the
"pull through" method for many years. )

Besides, in New Zion, a suburb of Wiggins, the land was rather dry and
not so many such critters.

Seeing the Mississippi coast will just break your heart.

Even the boardwalk in Gulfport was missing every other section

Everything that was old and beautiful is gone - just gone.

not entirely. i saw pieces of foundations sometimes and Beauvoir is
somewhat boarded up. but it was sad to see so many blue plastic tarps on
roofs and trailers in yards when you got away from the gulf. however the
casinos seem to have survived and built new monstrosities in record time!

Except in our hearts. There's a group in
Pascagoula now that aims to build 100 houses in 100 days. That scares us
more than Katrina did.

If they manage the construction well, they could do a house a day on
average completed. that is not the same as start to occupancy in one
day! if they put enough staff and plan the sequence, they can do
multiple foundations and then raise them and get teams moving through
sequentially to get them to finish ... rather like singing rounds.

Our temps are varying from 60° to 90° so you'll want
to pack some clothes for both.

yessss. i barely had enough clothes for outside in high 40s. packing for
windy cold was not part of the plan.

Bless you for making a difference.

my wife's comment was that the smiles we say on Friday made it all
worthwhile. and we did see some big ones. and the lady we saw monday who
collapsed in tears telling about her experiences was on Friday walking
about with a smile that radiated and was saying over and over, God is good.

[for her, on monday we misunderstood the task that we were only to cover
some plywood with vinyl siding and we thought we were to do the whole
house. we reported back to the church with comments about hurricane
damage at the other end of the house and some siding had been torn away
when the foundation was repaired so the coordinator approved doing the
whole house. our task for 4 people for two days became one for 16 people
for two days with some professionals included. and for somebody who came
home after katrina to find roof gone and all the innards
damaged/destroyed now had her house whole and it looked good, awesomely
good. and she was off to her own church mission meeting that night
renewed to to go help others. God is good.]

there is so much more to do. what we did was a mere pittance. will it
ever be done?

Polly
