Default Anyone ordering from FMG? / A few Q's...

Is anyone ordering from FMG? I need a few things from there so if I could
piggy-back on someone else's order it'd be a great help...

Liquid gold: how much to order? If you have the 02/03 FMG catalogue I am
making something along the lines of the one with the chip beads on page 86,
but with 4 strands, and liquid gold rather than the thicker tubes used in
that pic. Total length of all the strands on all the items I'm making (hope
I worked this out right!) will be approx 130" So I guess I'll need about
100" or so of liquid gold - what's that gonna weigh? (*) Want quite fine
tubes. I don't want to be short and have to order more to top up, but I
don't want to spend a fortune and find I've overestimated. I could use a
little spare but don't have endless bead money right now. Also, I see their
(FMG's) plated liquid gold is far cheaper than the GF stuff - would it be
protected enough by chip beads/6-8mm round beads or should I just go for the
more expensive stuff? (*) Looking at p372/item B for GF or item O for plated
I think...

Watch faces: need one in a gold finish, though I wouldn't be averse to
buying 2 or 3 if the price is reasonable enough. Where's best?/Anyone got
any to sell?

TIA for any help you can give me...

Helen,

Have you looked on ebay.com? There are several people there who sell
the watch faces individually, and will ship to the UK.

Doh! My head's not screwed on right! LOL

(I also forgot to say on my post that I'm in the UK - I'm not assuming
everyone should remember where I am, just forgetful...)

I was rather put off when I was charged $30 for shipping to Australia for
only a few strands of beads. I just thought this was normal (being such a
newbie). It turned out they charged me so they could send me their
catalogue. I liked the catalogue, but I had no idea they were sending it and
that was why the shipping was so high. I felt I should have been given the
option. Since then I have received an annual catalogue without charge, while
this nice, I still felt the charges should have been itemised in the first
instance. Also I ordered some saphire beads which were very expensive, the
photo's were misleading and the size not actually spelled out, when I got
them they were teeny tiny. You live and learn. However, it led me to seek
other, as it turns out, better value, sources for my beading supplies. So at
this point, I have never re-ordered from them.

Well, they gouge people in the US too. Shipping is $6.88 or 10% of your
total, whichever is greater, PLUS a $2.65 handling fee! Now, I don't know
what other mail-order bead companies charge, but that seems way excessive.
I understand wanting to discourage small orders, but that seems built to
discourage all orders! They have really cool stuff in their catalog
though....

Cool stuff but I agree with you about the shipping charges. And their prices
on the stock aren't the greates either. For example, one gross of crystal AB
4mm Swarovski bicones is $18.06 + 6.80 + 2.65 = $27.51. Thru Tobead.com,
$11.94 + $2.30 (1st class USPS service) = $13.58.

I can get twice as much for my money by going elsewhere. I've used Tobead
several timesand they are terrific! There really isn't much of a chance that
I'll buy anything thru FMG.

Inferior quality, crappy customer service and high shipping fees. I never
have ordered from them after the first couple of times. They also mislead
in their advertising.
