Tidy crimping method
I have seen a very tidy looking crimping method and I would like to
find out how to do it. The tiger tail is looped around the clasps and crimped in the usual way, but this is then covered with a pale ivory sheath that looks as if it is thread that has been wound around the tigertail and crimp to give this elegant finish. I don't think that it has been wound by hand (that would be a lot of work and wouldn't give the same finish). Has anybody seen this method? Is there somewhere where I can buy this sort of crimp? Does it require a special tool - if so, where could I find it? Any suggestions would be very gratefully recieved! Verity |

The cover is not wound around the wire afterwards, it's placed there
beforehand. It's called 'French wire', 'gimp' or 'French bullion'. http://www.suncountrygems.com/jewelry_making_2.html and mo http://snipurl.com/fqdb Oh, and stop using tigertail - upgrade to something like SoftFlex, SoftTouch or Beadalon 49 strand. ;-) ---------- Barbara www.penguintrax.com eBay & Justbeadsenguintrax 0 /O\ Nurturing doesn't end at birth: breastfeed, co-sleep, babywear. Wouldn't the French wire be placed there after crimping? Strung on and then
slid over. Tina "Barbara Forbes-Lyons" wrote in message ... The cover is not wound around the wire afterwards, it's placed there beforehand. Just have to be cautious not to squish the gimp. -- The Blessed Fiddy, Patroness Saint of the Disorganized LC in Sunny So Cal Personality Development Specialist (Full-Time Mom!) |

Again, the way it's being described, it sounds like the gimp is covering the crimp when it's being crimped. Surely that would crush the French wire. Nope, you stop the gimp just *at* the crimp. No smooshing allowed. The stringing wire and gimp go from the crimp...into the clasp or whatever...and back to the crimp. But not inside the crimp at all. -- The Blessed Fiddy, Patroness Saint of the Disorganized LC in Sunny So Cal Personality Development Specialist (Full-Time Mom!) |

Glad you clarified. I thought she was saying that the gimp COVERED the
crimp, rather than was on each side of it. Tina "Fiddy" wrote in message ... Hello all -
I have lurked here for a long while - I love looking at all y'alls handywork and hearing your tips and tricks. I do not make beads but I love them - I buy them whenever I go and whenever I can from the Internet. I love making things from the beads I buy and am always looking for a new way to do different things. I am not sure how I came across these new and fabulous crimps - I have short term memory loss real bad - if I saw them here and they are not new to y'all please just excuse this post. BUT... I was wondering if any of you use the Twisted Tornado Crimps? Here is where I bought some from: http://www.viamurano.com/ Has anyone out there tried these? They are so easy to use and I think they look nice too. What are your thoughts? Thanks & Have a fabulous day beading! |
