Default Floss Identification Question

Hi!

I picked up a bag of rather old floss at my EGA meeting, and I've come
across some unfamiliar brands--can anyone give me any information?

Here are the names:

Artamo (4-strand rayon; "guaranteed boil-proof")
Peri-Lusta Filo (British registered trademark)
Belding Lily Co. (Shelby, N.C.; also "boil proof")
American Thread Co., Star Six Strand ("fast color, will boil")
Bucilla (super-mercerized, "sunfast-boilproof")

I also have several bundles of DMC's Coton floche a broder, qualite
speciale, No. 16 (124 yards)--is this the same thing as the "broder
special"?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Well, you're right that they're "old". Lily and Star were among the stuff I
inherited from my great-aunt, with prices indicating they went back at least to
the 40s and 50s. I don't believe either company is making floss any more.

Unless it's been stored under adverse conditions, the floss should be usable,
so long as you don't need to color-match another skein to it. Use it for small
things like Christmas ornaments, where that won't be necessary.

Or find some way to display your "antiques" so you can pass them down intact to
the next generation of stitchers.

If I recall correctly, Star also made sewing thread.
