Default Gone to the Dogs (the beads, that is!)

A friend of mine just adopted a 13 yr. old Dachshund from a resuce, so I
made this little pin for her:

I got the dogs from Alan Greyowl's Beaded Kennel book. Of course, I had to
try the Chihuahuas, and they were a bit big for earrings, so I did them just
with the heads:

The big one, I made into a pin:

And I re-did my bracelet. I thought it was too much clear sparkle, so I
switched the aqua and the clear crystals, so the aqua is on top, around the
rivoli now:

Most of you know I volunteer with an animal shelter and foster dogs (one at
a time) in my home. Last year, we kept one of our fosters, Caesar, a psycho
Chihuahua. Well, I couldn't resist this purse, and here's Caesar showing it
off.

I kind of hate to promote any breed, since I'm really a pound hound kind of
girl, but it looked so much like my crazy little dog!

Adorable! I have a soft spot for Weiner dogs myself, so I really love
it.

Beaded Kennel Book? Hmm... That sounds interesting, and as if I must
acquire it as quickly as humanly possible. Is this book available
through the
normal book outlets (Amazon, B & N, etc.?)

This last photo had me rolling on the floor. Your little silly looks
like
she's getting out of Dodge before someone (you) discovers that
she's been very, very naughty with that purse. ;-)

Silly little girl, and a great photographer who always seems to
catch that perfect moment. I still remember all those Spike
photos which made him look as if he was both put-upon and
loving every second.

Nothing wrong with promoting any breed or no breed at all. If you
like
small dogs, as I do, you won't find any in the pounds around here.
Most
of what I see are Pit mixes, which really aren't for me at all. I
like my
dogs to weigh about 10-15 lbs, not eat 10-15 lbs a day!

Cheers,

Kathy N-V

P.S.: I don't know if I ever shared my own very sad news here. My
Sophie, Cairn Terrier rescue and my amazing companion for 13
years, died three years ago of heart failure, precipitated by her
terrible fear problems from being put through so much at the puppy
mill and in the various pounds where she was dumped before she
came here. I'm not well enough to have another dog right now, so I
love to hear about other people's dogs and all the fun you folks have
with them. One of these days, Sophie will have a successor, and I
will be so happy that I got to stay at least a little warmed up by
hearing
all the doggie tales (tails?) over the years.

I never really warmed up to "small" dogs and I thought all Chihuahua's were
psycho....until I became Grandma to 2 Chi-Weinies, Chihuahua/Dachshund
mixes. They are also called Mexican Hot Dogs. The male, Diego (aka Diablo)
is a black and tan that some people mistake for a Min-Pin, and the girlie,
Lilly, is a golden brindle. They are an absolute delight, and have so much
love for their people. I love making them jackets/sweaters etc....knit,
crochet or sew. After seeing the new Disney movie, Beverly Hills Chihuahua,
I want to make Lilly a lovely Swaro necklace like the heroine in the movie.

Jerry, your doggie creations are delightful...as always, and I really like
the Caesar/purse pics.

Kathy NV, such a pleaseure to see your posts. When I see Cairn's at the dog
park I think of you and Sophie, so I was saddened to learned she had passed
on.

I got it from FMG. You can't find it on Amazon, or B&N.

Most of the patterns are really good. A few are just ok, but some dogs are
harder to capture in beadwork than others, so I guess that's to be expected.

Thanks, Annie. I've seen a few Chi-weenies at adoptions. I think they are
adorable.

I haven't seen the Chihuahua movie yet, but I want to.

I have Caesar in Agility class, and people laugh when they think about a
Chihuahua in Agility, but if you saw him run and jump, you'd see why he's
there. He loves it!
