Default Table top glass

All,

We have just bought a pair of U-shaped coffee tables that fit together
in a variety of interesting ways. One of these gives a 120cm (4')
square table with a 40cm x 40cm (16" x 16") hole in the middle. My
fiancee would like to purchase a 50cm x 50cm (20" x 20") sheet of acid
etched glass to cover this hole.

I have called a number of glass companies here. One recommended 6mm
sandblasted glass, one recommended 5mm toughend glass, and one said
"don't bother, it will break no matter what you use".

What are peoples opinions on this? Should be forget about it, or is
this doable. If so, what glass thickness should we use?

Thanks

Matt

Go with the sanblasted piece. Put the blated side down. As long as you
aren't slamming anything down, you should be fine. If you've rowdy
kids, then go with the tempered and you can have it lightly sandblated.

I etch glass myself with my hands & a rotery tool, I have been abe to
etch on several thickness of glass...Wine glass, car windows & just
plain window glass...The only thing is just to be careful on how deep
the etching is & handling of the glass....After correcting my mistakes
in the past, everything has come out good with no problems. So I say you
can do it with your table.

Even on tempered glass? Isn't that rather risky?
