Default paint for dolls house

Just building house for my daughter and I am unsure which type of paint to
use.
1. for the ceilings ( I may try paper) is emulsion any good?
2. some of the detail on the exterior.
any help would be great

I go to the "mis-tint" shelf at the local home improvement store, and buy
"real" paint for the exterior and trim, for a fraction of the cost of
"dollhouse paint" I have seen for sale in shops. I bought a gallon of white
exterior semi gloss for five dollars, which was marked down simply because
it had been opened and re-sealed without tinting. I've used that for
priming, covering walls, etc., and still have almost half a can left.
Typically I pay two to three dollars for a quart. Just look through the
colors they have, and if they don't have what you want, check again the
following week. Just be sure to use latex for easy clean up, and stir or
shake it very well before use. Make note of whether you are going to want
flat or semi-gloss or satin. I prefer satin, but will use semi-gloss, since
it is fairly washable.

For small bits of trim, where a quart will be way too much, you can use a
craft paint, available in smaller sizes. Be sure to prime first, which fills
in the oversized grain marking and provides a stable base for the paint to
adhere. If the pieces are not yet assembled, you could put them in a
cardboard box or take them outside, and spray paint them with a coat of
primer, let it dry, then a couple light coats of the spray paint color of
your choice.

Others may disagree with me, but I have more success painting the individual
components before gluing and nailing them together, than painting an
assembled dollhouse. I've also used spraypaint for the larger pieces, before
assembling them. It would work fine for an assembled house, if you don't
mind taping and masking, and if you are careful to keep a light hand, to
prevent runs, which look worse than brush marks, IMVHO.

You can also tint white interior latex paint with acrylic paint to get
colors, a quart goes a heckuva long way.

I use good quality regular latex paint. I get a quart of white flat and a
quart of white semi gloss for the interior and exterior.. For colors I buy
small bottles of craft paint and mix it with the white. For ceilings I use
the ceiling paint we had around the house. I also used ceiling paint for
priming all the walls. I've used paper on the ceilings, mainly to cover
tapewire. I have bought "dollhouse" paint and have found it to be thicker
than regular paint. The main thing is not to use cheap paints.

I dunno what you mean by "emulsion" and why paint alone is not sufficient.
I dunno what you mena by "detail on the exterior". I will advise you that
exterior colors of "real" houses don't always look good on dollhouses.
