Default OK, I gotta a blowing question

Does anyone know were I can get a small, hollow, stainless steel, flaired at
the end rod for blowing out some miniature vases with the torch??? I've
searched everywhere. I found them somewhere... can't remember right now...
BUT, they were around $75 each!!! That's a bit insane for a 12-14" thin
rod! I'm thinking a bit more like $4-$5.00 a rod. Let me know...THANKS!

Dennis,
you want Rod, or you want tube?
SS tube alone is expensive as compared to rod, and in something miniature
where there is not as much demand, the prices tend to be higher, now to
answer your question, I have a couple extra SS blowtubes I acquired when
fooling around with perfume bottles straight from a glory hole,(small size),
I could part with one of them pretty inexpensively, what have you got to
trade?

SS tubing can be purchased from Copper and Brass sales, I think they have
offices nationwide and do ship, it's just the quantity you would have to
buy.

Mine is 24" long 7/16" ID, 9/16" OD straight no flare,

What diameter do you mean by small. What is the diameter of the tube and
large end of the flare. What wall thickness. If you can get tubing it
may be simple to do the flare if you know someone with a lathe. You
could also post this on rec.crafts.metalworking

Go to a plumbing/heating shop, they will have a flaring tool there and
maybe even the SS tubing. Some auto parts stores sell flared lengths of
tubing and you might find stainless. They're used for brake lines.

Nearly melting the keyboard from friction of those fast fingers,

Just a thought, but is there someone in your town who does brake lines?
Those would be stainless and have flared ends.

K&S Engineering (www.ksmetals.com) includes stainless steel tubing in their
hobby metals displays. Not all hobby and hardware stores that have the
brass stuff will have the SS, but we do at Elliott's Hardware and can ship
it. The sizes run from 1/8" to 1/2" in 12" length and from 5/16" to 1/2" in
3' lengths in the standard stock - as restructed for Ace Hardware stores.
Flaring will be up to you.

WOWWWWWWWWW!
As usual, you guys, (and gals), didn't disappoint me! I never thought of
a brake lining!!! I have, in my possession, as I type... EXACTLY what I was
looking for! I knew someone made such an animal, just couldn't think of
who! Thanks again! And Java... one of these days I may take you up on your
offer.

Just make sure you say "brake line" instead of "brake lining"
and you may save some misunderstanding (at least on the phone).

Someone said something about "perfume bottles at the glory
hole" in a post in this thread (that I've lost track of). Would said
person be willing to say a few words about that? A guy at school
just got done doing some really nice perfume bottles with a standard
blowpipe. Was it a lot easier with a teeny one?

No such thing as "easier", it was a small"gallon" size glory hole I was
fooling around with, it wasn't big enough so I made one with a 5 gallon
metal pail, like the one in Boyce's book 2, and it worked well, good for a
day of fooling around doing something other than what I was used to doing.

What else do you want to know? I probably did it the hard way but they
sold.
