What paint to use on plastic?
I have several colors of waterbased acrylic paint (Plaid and other brands)
but when I tried painting on plastic the paint can be easily scratched off the surface after dried. The object in question is my daughter's Little People toy house. It is quite bland and I am thinking of painting some details like the little flowers on the fence, benches, etc. My only concern is that the paint cannot be easily scratched for safety reasons as she is 1. Is there any specific acrylic paint for plastic or am I missing something here? Thank you in advance, FayeC |

Krylon has a new Plastic paint.
Or just use a Primer. I have been painting plastic miniatures for years, never had a problem if its been primed. ARTEMIS http://imperialcrafting.xenaholic.com/ "FayeC" wrote in message . .. You could try roughing the surface slightly with sandpaper but under play, the paint may still rub off. Someone mentioned Krylon's plastic paint - I've only seen it in spray cans, but I've been known spray enamel into the can lid and dip a brush into it. (Don't use plastic-bristled brushes, 'cause they may melt.) The problem is that "plastic" isn't just one thing - there are a gazillion different kinds of plastic, and what works well on one kind may not dry on another and may actually melt a third. That said, you might check a hobby or toy store for model airplane paint. It's forumated to bond with the sorts of plastic used by modelers. It's *not* acrylic, it's enamel, and must be used with adequate ventilation and given sufficient time to dry; follow the instructions and precautions on the packaging. I'd test it somewhere inconspicuous (the bottom of the toy, perhaps) to make sure it doesn't melt the plastic or cause other problems. -- Pat Kight |
