Curing with an Expoxy ???
Take a look at this eBay auction which sports small statues made in
your or a friends image. They appear to be made from polymer clay .. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=314834799 2 However, the seller said that the artists do not bake them to cure them but they use an expoxy (that is apparently mixed in with the clay). Has anyone ever heard of this? I made several inquiries to various professional polymer clay sites and no one has. Any data would be appreciated. Thanks Rachel |

Interesting...
But they said an "adhesive", in the description. It really looks like polymer clay to me. The only thing I can think of is a coating of TLS. Technically, its an adhesive, although it adds strength when you coat a piece with it. My 2 cents worth. Kellie |

What is TLS? Also, they do this at street fairs, real quick evidently
and I am assuming that the customer can take his statue home with him which would explain why they sought out a non-baking method for curing. I'd really like to know what this is but don't know anyone in Cancun who can go check it out ... darn. The guy who is selling them isn't one of the artist so just doesn't know. The auction doesnt state that the statues are made of polymer clay, they use
the term clay which could mean almost any substance at all including paper clay. The one fair I went to where polymer clay objects were being sold and made at the same time the sellers had a toaster oven handy. Polymer clay doesnt take a long time to cure so this option was quite feasible. So, I cant answer your question about adhesives. There are several kinds of epoxy based clay, which don't require baking. I
have used Magic Sculp (www.magicsculp.com ) for modeling, but it has a slightly different feel than polymer clay, it's softer, and more difficult to use. However, the epoxy dries so hard you have to chisel it down to break it, it's very durable, much more than PC. -- Eni ----------------- http://www.oken3d.com Online Workshops for Artists: http://www.oken3d.com/workshop Weblog with tips on 3D, art, fantasy and other oddities http://www.oken3d.com/ezo "Rachel" wrote in message om... Hello there!
You asked what TLS is, it's Translucent Liquid Sculpey. It's wonderful to work with and can be used as an adhesive, transfer medium, or can be mixed with Pearl-Ex powders... I can't live without the stuff. And I hear they are making it in colours now. Amanda http://www.picturetrail.com/amandarose1 "Rachel" wrote in message om... Has anyone tried the Makin's Clay by Provo Craft? It is a no bake clay and
comes in several colors. It looks like polymer clay in the package, but it says that it is water based and does not contain PVC. This is the web site http://www.provocraft.com/products/makinsclay/index.php I have some of it that I recently purchased, but have not tried to use it and have no idea if it looks like the items you mention. This is the company's web site.
http://www.makinsclay.com/mc/aboutus.asp Read their trademark section to see that I should have put TM after their name which I will not type another time as I do not want to have to type that. Want to irritate me? Tell me not to advertise for you by quoting your brand name without the TM. I do understand trademark, but this is going too far for me. Next thing you know the speech police will be here and if I say the name without TM I'll be made to stand in a corner for a week. Don't worry, I'll tell them we haven't seen you lately, besides, it wasn't you anyway, and ya never did it, no how! and they will go away, to sniff out dangling participles.
