Securing function at seam end
I am just learning to use our new Bernina 640E and have been trying to
figure out how to make the securing function work. The securing function works fine at the beginning of a stitch even though I migth like to take 2 or 3 stitches instead of four. However, at stitch end (blind hem or zig zag) the machine keeps normal stitching (moving the fabric) until it has completed the entire stitch pattern before securing. Is there a way to use the securing function at seam end to secure my seam "exactly" where I choose instead of at the end of the stitch pattern? Jerry in North Alabama |

Yes, there is a way to do it but I can't remember right now and don't
have time to look it up. Check your instruction book. I do remember during the class that she showed us something to end a stitch. I have had my 630 for four months and haven't had the time to really learn how to use it. Sad to spend so much on a machine and then not use it to the full advantage. Don't have a Bernina - but on my Janome the answer would be
to turn off the stitch pattern where you want to stop, then end off. This assumes that your "securing function" is a few stitches up and down in (almost) one spot. -- Cheryl & the Cats in OZ o o o o o o ( Y ) ( Y ) ( Y ) Enness Boofhead Donut http://community.webshots.com/user/witchofthewest catsatararatATyahooDOTcomDOTau "MaleQuilter" wrote in message ups.com... :I am just learning to use our new Bernina 640E and have been trying to : figure out how to make the securing function work. : : The securing function works fine at the beginning of a stitch even : though I migth like to take 2 or 3 stitches instead of four. : : However, at stitch end (blind hem or zig zag) the machine keeps normal : stitching (moving the fabric) until it has completed the entire stitch : pattern before securing. : : Is there a way to use the securing function at seam end to secure my : seam "exactly" where I choose instead of at the end of the stitch : pattern? : : Jerry in North Alabama : |

Securing function at seam end
I don't have the same model so this may not be helpful, but my Bernina has a
button to push for ending at the end of the stitch pattern. See if you have this then just press to turn it off. Mine has this as the picture beside it: (| with a line at the top and bottom of it. Also, how does your secure function work (I don't have that feature)? If it does just an up and down in the same spot you would be Ok. If it does a reverse thing, the ends may be a bit noticeable as the stitch pattern may not line up, so something to think about. With new Berninas, they offer a free class so you can learn how to use the functions on your machine. If it is possible for you to take it, I would. I did it with mine, and learned some things I didn't know the machine had. Also, got to try out all my feet and we discovered that my button hole foot was defective. I wouldn't have found out for awhile otherwise, and would have probably blamed me for things not turning out instead of the foot. Good luck. Hope you get it figured out. -- Charlotte http://community.webshots.com/user/charh108 "MaleQuilter" wrote in message ups.com... Debra ends off sort of like I do. The securing function doesn't exactly do
what I want so I always set my own. I keep the plain zigzag stitch set at nearly no length and no width. When I want to end securely, I just punch the zigzag stitch and do the number of stitches I like - which as you say is only 2 or 3 stitches. The default end-off gets a little bit too enthusiastic IMHO. I guess it would be okay on a canvas duffle bag. Polly If you're straight stitching, no need to change the stitch length.... just "stall" the fabric under the needle for a couple of stitches. |
