I was thinking of making a MInkee blanket for my SIL's baby which will
be born in the fall, God willing. She lost her first pregnancy at 5
months, and this one is much anticipated.

What I planned to do is use Minkee on both sides, birth it, use a fluffy
batting, and tie it. I haven't decided on a binding or not. Has anyone
had experience with tying Minkee? Do you think it would hold well
enough? I've never used Minkee.

We make minkee blankets for retail and the secrect to using wrights
binding is; use a lot pins and a walking foot. We switched to putting
rights sides together, stitch with generous hem, turn and top stitch.
I think the walking foot is a must!

If you are worried about the tying not holding - use your bar tack feature
on your sewing machine. That works really well for tying quilts. I have a
quilt that I made from percale sheets back about 1975 and I used red heart
acrylic yarn and a square knot. 30 years old now and it still hasn't come
out - not once! It was made as a utility quilt/comforter to match the bed
sheets and it has been drug around and thru moves in 5 states. Still going
strong on DS pick up bed when he goes to pow wows, camping, fishing, drive
ins or any overnight trip where he uses his pickup bed to sleep.. That stuff
wears like iron.

I made a quilt with Minkee backing and quilted it using just straight

lines
on an angle.. 6" apart criss crossing each other. .it came out really
great.. so putting circles or whatever quilting you want as long as it's

not
really small it won't lose ANY of it's fluffyness.. the stitches go down
inside and the minkee fills in around it... if you want i can take a close
up picture of the minkee quilted..

Michelle, I'd love to see it. I'm trying to decide between quilting and
tying.

My daughter adores Minkee. Every time we go to the fabric store, she's
over
there caressing it. So, today I bought enough for a twin-sized blanket.
She wants it on both sides.

How would you do this? I thought about just stitching it together and
then
birthing it, but then what about the interior? I can imagine you

wouldn't
want to really quilt it, as it would lose its softness. Also, having

made
my DH a chin strap for his CPAP machine with the stuff, I know how much

it
shifts. If I birth it, I'm going to have a heck of a time quilting it.

Alternatively, I could just cut it, place it wrong sides together, make

a
few quilting lines (large, large circles, perhaps?) and then stitch

around
the outside, and put on a binding.

Any suggestions?

Sheila

Denise, as I mentioned, I made my husband a chin strap for his CPAP machine.
The stuff is VERY slippery. I didn't pin it, because I was only stitching
about 14 inches, and the top layer must have slid about 1/2 of a inch. I
definitely plan to pin the heck out of it!

OH the 1st top? yeah i had a good cry.. and then started over.. the new one
looks MUCH better then the old one anyway For the backing.. i took the
minkee, batting, and a plain white cotton and quilted it together... then
after I finished the top, I used wonderunder to attach it to the white
cotton and then put binding..

i think I might still tack it down in the corners of the pictures cuz the
wonder under is starting to get all loose..
