Default Need help with knitting pattern

Hie all,

I'm a new knitter and will soon be a new mummy. So I wanted to knit a
cardigan for my baby. I've been doing okay so far but am having some
trouble with the shoulder shaping. I don't quite understand what the
pattern is asking me to do so I was hoping someone could help me.

The pattern is as follows,

"BO 2 sts at each side, then [dec 1 st at each side eor] twice"

What does this mean? I took the instructions to mean, BO 2 stitches at
the beginning of the knit row the n BO 2 stitches at the beginning of
the next purl row, purling across, then k2tog at the beginning of the
knit row, knitting across and k2tog the last 2 sts. Purling the next
row across, and doing the same decrease as before.

Am I correct? I am not so certain as the decrease seems quite minimal.
I could really use some help.

Thanks in advance!

four_feet,

I would take that to mean decrease "eor", "end of row" twice.

I would knit to the last stitches and decrease.

Purl to the last two stitches and decrease.

Knit to the end of the last two stitches, decrease.

Then purl to the last two stitches, decrease.

If I am wrong I am sure some one will correct me.

You have one of the most knowledgeable news groups on the net and the
friendliest.

I think you've pretty much got it. Babies don't have much shoulder, so
there isn't a need for a lot of shaping.

I think you are doing it right. I just did a top with a decrease EOR
which meant every other row (in other words, dec on the knit stitches
not the purl.)

In some patterns, EOR means `end of row', but reading it over again, I
think you're right. Every other row...

I think you've got it. Don't you hate it when they don't explain the
abbreviations?
Welcome to RCTY, BTW, one of the friendliest groups on the net.
And congratulations on the upcoming birth. Is this your first baby?

Higs,
Katherine

Yes, this is indeed my first baby and she's due in September. That
explains the enthusiasm to knit various articles of baby clothing.

Thanks for all the help. You all have been great. This is indeed the
friendliest group on the net.
