Default singer futura sewing machine

Good morning all, does anyone have this machine? if so, i would like your
opinion. i have about $1000-1200 to spend on a new sewing machine. i want to
get one that has lots of fancy stitches and does embroidery. i have been
searching the web and the singer futura ce-200 seems to be within my price
range and has everything i want. (it lists for around $900).

if anyone has any other suggestions of brands/models, i would love to hear
them. i am soooooo confused. i currently have a viking -sarah model.it is
just a basic mechanical machine. it is about 4 years old. i really like it,
but it doesn't have alot of stitches and of course doesn't do embroidery
which i really want.

thanks for any opinions/ suggestions / advice.

You might want to look at the Viking Iris. I think it's in the same price
range. And maybe the Rose, which is a little more. I'm a Viking fan, and
since you've loved your Sarah...

Well, I bought a Janome MC 8000 about a year ago on ebay for $450 incl
shipping. It's an older model but sews like a dream, has nearly 100
fancy stitches, plus 28 utility ones, and does embroidery as well as
any other home machine. (I qualify this because BH digitizes for a
commercial embroidery operation, and home machines are far short of the
quality he produces.) Has push botton start/stop, needle up/down,
needle threader, infinite speed adjustment, about 10 feet, lots of
needle positions and stitch adjustments, auto tension, drop-in bobbin,
etc. This was an investment for me, and there was a learning curve, but
I'm very pleased with it. Remember that for the best selection in
embroidery designs you'll need an Amazing Box to transfer designs to a
card to fit your machine.
The only thing I don't like is that it's big, and won't fit in the hole
in my sewing cabinet. My old one was small to drop in, though the arm
that flips down was the wrong shape. We were able to make a new arm
that fit the old one, but the new machine won't go in the hole. Makes
it hard to machine quilt.
I suggest you go by a dealer or quilt shop if possible and try the ones
you're interested in.
