Special Needles for Singer Featherweight?
I'm taking the big step to become more of a SMA (sewing machine
addict). I am now interested in a Featherweight, Model 221. Forgive me if I appear to be "out to lunch" but I thought I saw somewhere (like Ebay) that I had to use special needles for this machine. Is this true? I haven't seen any special ones in the fabric shops/online notions stores, so I'm not sure. If you have a featherweight, what kind of needle would you normally use? |

I asked a technician, who has been servicing and repairing many brands of
sewing machines for 30+ years. He said that any needle will work fine in a Featherweight. I've used Singer needles in the past, but currently use any standard needle including Schmetz and Bernina needles. -- Teresa in Colorado http://home.comcast.net/~treesaquilts The Presser Foot Sewing Machine Sales, Service, Supplies, and More www.thepresserfoot.com -- "Beth Pierce" wrote in message om... Schmetz or Singer are ok. I like Schmetz myself.
YOu might want to look in at the Featherweight Fanatics digest to learn a lot about FW's. TAria Beth Pierce wrote: I'm taking the big step to become more of a SMA (sewing machine addict). Featherweight Fanatics is a great source of info and fun. Free for one
month, then you are asked to pay $12 per year for the daily newsletter. There are several FW experts who routinely post info and answer questions. I use Schmetz needles, but am always on the lookout for a better (longer-lasting) needle. Haven't found one yet. The most important things to remember are a) use the correct needle size for the job, b) change needles after a large job of sewing, and finally c) NFL--Needle Flat Left! I've put several needles in with the flat side in other directions, and boy, does that gum up the works, lol! Luckily, my FW is a tough little thing and she sews just fine after I correct the needle placement. I can honestly say that my FW is the best sewing machine for quilt piecing that I've ever used. I love that little machine! Just my opinions, of course. -- Carolyn in The Old Pueblo If it ain't broke, you're not trying. --Red Green If it ain't broke, it ain't mine. --Carolyn McCarty If at first you don't succeed, switch to power tools. --Red Green If at first you don't succeed, get a bigger hammer. --Carolyn McCarty "Taria" wrote in message ... I use Singer and Schmetz. I also heard something about using only Singer
but I haven't had a problem. Teresa in Colorado wrote: I asked a technician, who has been servicing and repairing many brands of sewing machines for 30+ years. Beth, I recommend you get Singer Sewing Needles for your featherweight, most
other brands will fit, but they seem to be off in the timing. Enjoy your new addiction. -- Sandi in New Westminster B.C.
