Default safety concerns

Wotcher

as some of you know im attempting to create ocarinas
out of polymer clay, but before i do i was just wondering about the mouth
piece (thanks to Diane Black of www.glassattic.com for pointing out this
concern to me) is polymer clay safe to have in contact with a mouth.
although it says non-toxic i havent seen anyone making mugs or things with
clay so i figured id ask and see what is said before i poison myself

Heiko
Thanks again Diane

I wouldn't suck on it for hours, but PC is not
toxic, especially after baking. False teeth use a form of PC for the gums,
people have them in their mouths daily for years. The BIG reason not to use it
for food is that bacteria will grow in any little scratches and grooves, and
its very pliable when hot, and soft enough to scratch even when cool. It won't
hold up to really thorough dishwashing over time.

I have an ocarina mask that was sent to me--don't remember if it was Emma Ralph
or someone else that made it, but its very cool, tootles well.
