Default Rock Polisher

Can someone recommend a good quality rock polisher for the beginner?

What do you want to make? Tumbled stones? Cabochons? Faceted stones?

I'm not privy to what Cabochons are.

Hmmm,

Do you Google, ... or are you not privy to that either?

Just the kind of answer you'd expect from someone named Abrasha.

chuckle.

See? This is the type of thing, though this is a very tame example, that makes
my job difficult sometimes.

Look at Abrasha's original reply. Though it's a bit aggressive, and hardly a
gentle polite gesture of assistance giving the poster just what he/she wants,
it does actually provide a useful suggestion. (try google). And though
agressive in tone perhaps, it does not directly insult or attack though some
recipients of such a comment might feel put down. Nevertheless, observant
recipients of that post might find the thought to try google of use. It IS,
after all, a good suggestion, and the tone of Abrasha's post, implying that the
poster might well have thought of this himself, is not totally undeserved.
Lots of folks apparently sometimes don't both with a search engine, even though
it's faster and often very effective, but instead ask others to do the
searching for them. While Abrasha didn't HAVE to bother to respond in the
fasion he did, the apparent irritation is somewhat understandable.

Now look at Keith's followup. Apparently indignant at Abrasha for not gently
just providing the desired info about the nature of cabochons or models of rock
polisher, his post takes it further than Abrasha's, and is an actual attack
just on Abrasha, somehow implying that his perfectly good name has some
negative meaning (It doesn't . It's his given first name). Gentle enough so
as not to be totally unpostable, and probably not enough to consider a flame,
but getting close. A lot closer than the post he's objecting to, and with no
actual useful suggestion or info added. While Keiths' irritation at Abrasha's
post can also be understood, his response to it adds nothing useful to the
conversation.

Guess what Keith, your post probably should have been rejected while Abrasha's
was OK. I'd bet that this was not your intention.

I allowed Keith's post this time, on a couple grounds. First, it provides a
useful illustration of the difference between an acceptable post and one that
maybe is not, as described in this message. And, in such a situation, I let
this one through also simply because i'm pretty sure Abrasha won't mind too
much at my use of this interchange in this manner (I hope I'm right Mr. A?)

If folks will just think for a moment before automatically hitting the send
button, and take the time to ask whether their missive is something that
actually helps anyone in any way, I won't have to bother with this sort of
issue. Remember, the group charter does no require you to be nice or polite.
It DOES require you to refrain from personal attacks and flames. The topic of
the group is the jewelry craft and most related such subjects. You can be as
critical as you wish of on topic information. You can slam someones
description of how to solder i you wish. But you should refrain from slamming
the "someone" him/her self. This is clear enough to most people when they
spend just a moment thinking about it.

cheers, all.

I guess you don't know that, eh?

HeH! A lot of folks get mad even if you only say "Google is your friend".
Some folks act like they are extremely put out with you because you don't
immediately fulfill their demand for information. Even if that information
is so easily found with a basic search that it is trivial, but especially if
the information has taken good long years for the demandee to learn himself.
That is why I do so like the bit of wisdom I stole from one of Peter's
messages to this very group and use as a sig. line.
