Default Favorite Serger stitch Survey

1. What is your favorite serger "stitch", serger "feature" and/or
serger "foot", and how have you been using this?

2. How long did it take for you to get comfortable with using your
serger?

3. Have you taken a class on how-to use your serger? Or have you
taught yourself how to use your machine?

I would like to use your answers for a beginner serging class I will
be teaching this spring. Thanks!

Hi, I have a serger and I have taken the intro class and a "feet" class. I
still am not too comfortable with this little beast. It is so different
from a sewing machine. I can thread it and do some simple serging, but I
can't quite figure it out. But I keep trying and will take more classes.

Overlock - in the normal way - to do seams and finish fabric before
hemming.

Well, I got it at the end of August, and as a total new starter to
serging, picked things up pretty quick, and probably felt comfy with it
after about 5 sessions or so.

3. Have you taken a class on how-to use your serger? Or have you

I test drove a couple of sergers before buying mine, and that was it! I am
entirely self taught apart from the test drive where the shop helped out.
I was due to have a one day lesson, but they only hold that about 3 times
a year, and the one I was booked on got cancelled!

I must say that so far I have only tackled wovens, and although I have
practiced a little bit on rolled hems, I haven't actually tried to use
that feature. I'm planning on tackleing my first T-shirt & fleece projects
soon - which I suspect are going to be a whole 'nother ball game.

I do a lot of basic stuff, finishing off seams & hems, etc. I really
like using the rolled hem on satin and chiffon.

Can't recall, I'd been using DM's 3 thread for years before I got
my 2nd hand 5 thread of the same brand. I haven't quite figured
out the 5 thread tensions yet.

3. Have you taken a class on how-to use your serger? Or have you

Mostly self taught, have taken one generic class, and have the
instruction video for my machine but I haven't looked at it (oops).

I would like to use your answers for a beginner serging class I will
be teaching this spring. Thanks!
