Default crazy quilts

When do you quilt a crazy quilt? Wouldn't the fancy stitching get in the
way?

Crazy quilts aren't properly quilted. The top fabric is stitched to a
foundation. Sometimes there is a backing added and tied, sometimes there
isn't. But the stitching and layers of fabric make it a heavy quilt, and
batting isn't needed.

The crazy quilts I inherited were all tied with a colorful yarn. The
ends of the ties added to the designs.
