Default Roman glass for jewelry

I would love to get my hands on some raw Roman glass. I fell in love with
this stuff when I saw it at the New York Gift show a few years ago. If
anyone knows where to get some, let me know.
Here are two sites that show how wonderful this glass looks like in jewelry.

It is even better in person. This stuff just doesn't photograph very well.
It looks like fiery opal.

Well it has sat in the wet ground for 2,000 years that is how it got that
way. But it could change it if you get it wet for long periods of time.

It's beautiful. It would kind of scare me though, that you're not suppose
to get it wet, etc.

I got a beautiful pendant made with this glass when we were in Israel a few
years ago. At that time, our guide explained that the glass was only being
made available to Israeli artisans. It's been about 6 years, so this may
have changed, but I noticed on the websites you linked that those pieces
were made in Israel, so it might still hold true. And you're right, it's
much better in person than in the photos, the photos don't capture all the
depth and color shifts.

You're not supposed to get a *lot* of jewelry wet. Beadweaving, etc.

Neat! My friend Chris has a degree in antiquities, and has several
pieces of Roman glass in his collection... it's lovely! Also, depending
on the chemical composition of the soil, buried glass can achieve a
natural iridescent patina in as little as 20 years... I have dug up a
few lovely early 1900's pieces with a pretty patina from my backyard.
Modern iridized glass uses the same minerals as are present naturally in
the soil, applied in a spray solution and "baked" on to replicate the
effect... I'd love to play around with luster sprays in beadmaking, but
they are potentially very toxic.
