question for y'all (not OT for once!)
when I went to La Conner Quilt Museum last sunday, I was told the
hexagons used in the quilts in the featured show (Mary Montgomery? the name half escapes me) were 3/4 of an inch in size. I decided to use her technique for the center of my mini Round Robin - I am all excited, I am breaking my rule of having to finish something from my basket of WIPs (which does not include the MQ still on my design wall) before starting on a new project - but I am giving myself permission to do this since it is just a 6 inch block after all. I have all fabrics selected, will make a hexagon EPP background sewn with silk thread like she does and aplique using nzl's technique with non woven interfacing... so last night I drafted some hexagons in paper. turns out that the hexagons she uses must be 3/4" to the SIDE, not the diameter of the circle that encloses them, which was my first interpretation. otherwise they are really REALLY small... so, I am just curious, what do you guys understand if I say 'a 3/4" hexagon'? PS: no wonder I could not believe it when the lady at the door said she even does 1/4 inch hexagon quilts! (later someone here said it was more 1/2") -- Dr. Quilter Ambassador of Extraordinary Aliens http://community.webshots.com/user/mvignali (take the dog out before replying) |

Yep, when it's hexagons the measurement refers to "on a side" so a 1"
hexagon means each side is 1" long. There was a lovely quilt displayed at PIQF two years ago made with 1/4" hexagons. The maker made a quilt with lovely flowers out of all those teeny pieces. It was amazing to see. marcella In article , "Dr. Quilter" wrote: when I went to La Conner Quilt Museum last sunday, I was told the hexagons used in the quilts in the featured show (Mary Montgomery? the name half escapes me) were 3/4 of an inch in size.
