Default What was your favorite bowl??

Mine has always been the gingerbread bowl - or, in any event, ANYTHING that
included black treacle (molasses)

I suspect that most of you remember "licking out the bowl" after momma was
through with it on bake day. What was your favorite ingedient or what

ever??

Mine was cleaning out the left overs from the butter tart filling with the
remains of a lemon pie being a close second.

Come to think of it I'm not sure where the term "licking out the bowl"

came
from as momma usually furnished a spoon and any self respecting bowl

licker
started at the rim of the bowl with the spoon and worked to the bottom
creating many artistic patterns along the way. I know what "licking the
spoon" meant because that is what I would offer my antsy sister after I

was
done.

My favorite was my mom's chocolate icing--the kind that hardened and almost
turned to fudge. If one of my older brother's was around I usually just got
the beaters!

Well - I can recall hugging the "china" bowl on an occassion in college.
:-)

However - to stay on topic - it was definitely a toss up of either the
yellow cake mix or the chocolate icing. I read Bonnie's response and our
beaters usually had more on them. (To keep things fair, mom would use that
rubber spatula to clean that red porcelain bowl pretty good!) LOL!

Ah - the memories Fred. Thanks.

I'm not sure I had a favourite, but I love chocolate, and was notorious for
eating raw dough of any sort - it didn't even have to be sweet. A couple
things this brought to mine was first, I was shocked when making brownies
with my SIL's family (yes in my family, your siblings spouses families
become your families, just think of the mayhem I could of caused in the
Mother/Daughter/Son-in-Law thread), that before the spoons and beaters were
handed out to be licked, they were dipped back into the batter so you had
more to lick. At my house we got the LEFTOVERS after just about everything
had been scrapped into the baking dish.

And secondly comes a question that goes with this - what was your favourite
by-product, if any of baking day? When my mom made pies, she would take the
left over pie dough that wasn't enough to make another pie and roll them up
like pinwheels with sugar and cinnamon making miniature cinnamon buns
(sorta) which she baked on a pie pan. There must of been butter too, yummy!
I hated sharing!

Rachel

Oooooo! My mom did those, too, and I loved them. Now when I make a pie, I
always make some for myself. DH is not a pie crust fan. That just means
there is more for me!
