Default Covering boxes with fabric

I want to cover a couple of small oval and round cardboard boxes (bought
from Michael's) with fabric (black taffeta for one). The boxes are
small, like 3 inches across. As they are rounded, I was thinking that
this is going to be no easy task. Does anyone know of some resource
material to give me a few tips? Any help is appreciated.
=)
TIA,
Jeanine in Canada

Hi

I have emailed an article under separate cover that might help. Hope you don't delete it as spam! If you did this is the link:

http://www.diynet.com/diy/cr_boxes/a...269655,00.html

Our local library has some good books showing how to cover (and make) boxes with fabric - do you have access to a local library perhaps?

Thank you Anne! I'm off to check out your links. I didn't even think of

Good luck Jeanine :-) A lot of people live miles from their nearest library - I am lucky to be close to mine and it has a very good needlework/craft section that is being updated all the time - lucky me!

Not easy when the box sides and bottom are attached already. I cut the
base out of the box. Cover the bottom of the base. Then cover the
sides with a folded fabric tube and gather around the bottom. Then
place the sides gathered seam allowance inwards and glue on the base
to the sides gathering. Then make another base and place inside at the
bottom to cover the inner base.

If you have a look at the 'free workshops' in my JMD website for the
bag instructions, it is a similar method in a way.

Yes, you are lucky, my local library hasn't got so great a needlework
section and it's rarely updated HOWEVER the library near my old work has
a FABULOUS needlework section. I used to spend my lunch hours in there.
I'm off tomorrow and will drag my DD (out on spring break) down there to
have a boo (hopefully she'll get up before NOON!). Can't complain
really, lots of quiet stitching time...

Thanks Janet - I actually understand what you mean! I'm not the greatest
at reading instructions, but that makes sense. Do you use a glue gun or
just liquid glue?

I use liquid fabric glue that is only sold here in New Zealand. I
don't like the hot guns personaly. But either would be fine too use.
