Yes we are a fairly honest bunch down here - brutally honest sometimes.

We
say what we think! Oh and I don't mind watching the CSIs - both of

them -
Gil Grissom (can't remember the actors name) and David Caruso, oh my!

wishing I was 19 again when watching Michael Phelps or some of the

other
swimmers?? I do watch ER to see Noah Wyle (AKA Dr. Carter). Any other

Some of the chaps on The Bill are quite easy on the eye, and Paul McDermot
who host Strictly Dancing in Oz is cute with a quick wit.

Patti - your post is written very well and puts into words exactly what I
have been thinking about this entire thread and what I think was trying to
be conveyed by several other people.

[resend - the original seems to have been eaten by the system somewhere].

OK Diana
I have been reading on the sidelines during this discussion, and have
wondered whether or not I should step in.
Your original post, I believe you, was not intended to hurt or offend.
However, the *timing* of it made it inevitable that it would be seen by
most people - including me - as a response to the brief skirmish on
advertising (which had been inadvertent). You did come across as very
dictatorial when you said that you believed that people paid to be here
and that it was a class rather than an informal get-together, and that
distractions were not welcome.
It also sounded as though you had made a pronouncement and you wanted to
know whether the rest of us agreed. I'm sorry, dear, but this really was
how it could have been read.
We all have different reasons for being here; and *no-one's* personal
vision of the group can be paramount. It does *not* set out to be a
class, in any sense of the word - we have the Quilt University for that.
It is a leisure-time activity. In the latter part of your post, when you
were beginning your sentences with 'do we want ...' and so on, the 'we'
definitely sounded like what British people would call 'the royal we' -
that is, meaning 'I'. Whether or not you meant it, that is how it could
have been read.
I really don't understand why you came down so heavily on distractions. If
I may say so, many of your own posts and conversations with other bright,
young things (and others), would fall into that category. That is not to
say there is no place for such; and if anyone does not want to read
threads they can kill them as easily as winking.
You are not alone in feeling pain from this I can assure you; but it was
your post which started it off. You must have seen that you ran that
risk. Its timing was bad. Its tone was unfortunate. You did not mention
anyone's name, but your 'audience' could be forgiven for thinking that you
were affronted that the group was not acting as *you* thought it should
and you were letting us all know about it.
You will know, I hope, that I am writing this purely in a spirit of trying
to redress the balance by putting to you - gently - that you could have
said what you did at a more opportune time, perhaps a week or so after the
advertising squabble (which in itself was most unfortunate and
unnecessary), and with rather less of the attitude that your own view of
the group was the right one.

Sounds like we're talking serious Northern Illinois (Judy-terrain), but if
y'all want to head nawth, you know where we's at.

Specifically, if you ladies want to come up on 57 and park at my place, I'll
drive the carpool from the south side to the wilds of the West Side......

I think I'll just watch Pirates of the Carribean again... Jonny
Depp/Captain Sparrow - yummy! ;D

I might just make a quilted 18th C petticoat to wear with my sack dress
pattern and look the part myself... Period costume and quilting and
droolong... Where's the chocolate?

Having the show every other year in Columbus will make it easier on a
lot of people. I hope the Columbus guild doesn't burn out. The show in
Peoria was smaller this year. I over heard gals from Columbus telling
everyone that "their" show would be back to the usual size.

Can't say yet that I will be there, but I will try. Columbus is the
better part of a day's drive from Chicago but the hassle of getting to
and through the air port makes even a long drive sound better these
days.

If they have it here every other year, they will hire help. The guilds just
can't do this that often. We have lots of room and you are more than
welcome to stay at my house. The more, the merrier. Hope DDM and friend
will return. We had so much fun.

rofl, Pati,
my what? goodness more like wit-less or half-wit here.
as to my help, well, gee, my quilting expertise just isnt and the sites i
could find have been found by others out there in abundance. dont think i've
found anything much new lately to pass on.
my flying geese done flew the coop long ago.
been 4 months now getting in-laws sorted out. both in nearby rest homes now
tho mil needs hospital wing and fil doesnt and no spare rooms in her home so
they are in diff homes. oh my, more to deal with.
sil caused a really big stupid cafuffle on the day before fil was moving
from his home into the rest home. got him all upset then started got mad at
him for getting upset. everytime he calls me, which is bout every other day,
easier for him to call us than us him as we have to go thru the reception
then they gotta find him, get phone to him etc and he might be otherwise
engaged, he asks if i've spoken to sil yet. arghhhhhh. hes try'd calling her
twice and she was abrupt and rude, then hung up quickly.
anywhooooooo. now ds arrived yesterday for ten days.
i hear theres light at the end of the tunnel but its eluding me.
jeanne
awww, thanks for thinking of me, right now i'm doing so little sewing at
all, its just not funny, i'm up for adoption tho, lol
