The rag rugs that I remember not being sewn or laced together were actually
crocheted, not braided. I have made a couple of smaller ones and they work
up quite well. The same technique is used with torn cottons to make hot
pads, etc.. I was actually thinking of the poster who mentioned mending bed
linens because that is what my old sheets used to end up as - hot mats! I

I think that the type of rug you are describing are the ones they call
"pjonging" rugs. Hope it helps!

BRAIDED rug. Most all the braided rug directions I found on the
internet....YES I DID LOOK !! Were for ones to be braided & then
sewn-up. Looking for directions for one you braid & do not then sew
up.
