Well, you can work a fake two-stitch twist, a la Elizabeth or Barbara
Walker. Knit the second stitch on the left, then k2tog the first and
second stitches. OR, knit into the back of the second stitch, then
knit the first stitch. Something like that. One appears to twist one
way, one the other way. Experimentation is a wonderful thing

Thanks, Wooly. Maybe that was what I was thinking of, but I thought it
was something a bit less intuitive.
