Default felting help please! plus a great book

why don't you think your yarn will work? it's not the fulling
that makes the "mohawk" stand up. if you can get your yarn
looped in there tightly enough, it should stand up just fine.
if not, you can starch it, just like a real 'hawk

One more question---I have gone down one size since I will
not be felting the body of the hat either and thus, it will
not be shrinking. Can anyone give me some sort of shrinkage
percentage so I know how long to cut the fringe when I make
it (if I must use 100% wool for it). Thanks guys!

i don't have the book in front of me, but it appears to be
barely fulled anyway. the stitch definition is pretty distinct
in the photo. it looks like the strands for the 'hawk are
about 4"? so 8" doubled. i suspect you can do that as written.

Hi Lee,
I did a few pieces of fringe like it said to and they flopped over
miserably. According to the directions, the wool of the mohawk comes
out of the wash all tangled and you're supposed to tear it to bits and
end up with this lovely fluffy "do". I tried teasing out the strands
(didn't wash it, though), and that failed miserably. So before I went
any further, I decided to write to you all for help.
