I don't have the book, but I've made snakes using tubular herringbone for
the body and brick stitch for the head, with cats' eye beads for eyes. I did
one and threaded it on memory wire so it wraps around the arms four times
and another with a beaded loop
under the head so you can wear it as a lariat.

Tubular herringbone makes a very slinky, realiztic snake body.
