I just bought a set of mini cole jaws for my SuperNova, and it came
with a set of screws for mounting on the jaw slides that are twice as
long as are needed. Anyone know what they are for? They're listed in
the manual but I can't see any use for them.

Is this a 3 jaw chuck? Perhaps the screws(bolts) are for what we call
pie(step) jaws. These are oversize jaws that you turn/bore to fit
certain portions of the work piece, very useful for oversized work,
usually used in metal turning.
