Default Granny's Quilt

It arrived today, my Granny's quilt top, all folded neatly into a tiny
little bundle that fit neatly inside my mail box. I have to confess my
hands were shaking as I opened it. Oh my.....

The top is now spread out on my bed and I can hardly stand to look at
it for long. There, in neat blocks sewn together with just about
perfect seams, are squares of Granny's dresses, the kitchen curtains
from her little house, the rocking chair cushion, her bed covering.
It's like stepping back into a time when I was small and life was
simpler. I can't believe I'm touching something she touched and held
and cared about. It's very emotional for me.

My Granny was a rock. Now, she wasn't born that way and Lord knows she
must have made her share of mistakes in a life that spanned 102 years.
But when I knew her, hard times and faith had taught her a lot about
being strong and loving with a heart that knew no bounds. Whenever
things got hardest around our house, my parents sent me off to
Granny's house. And that was heaven.

So now I have a quilt top she made. And eventually I'll quilt it. But
for now I'm just going to wrap it around me and dream a little bit of
being in my Granny's house and feeling like the whole world was safe
and good.

Hugs,
Sunny
