Book Report~ Zen and the Art of Knitting, Exploring the Links Between
Knitting, Spirituality, and Creativity

.By Bernadette Murphy

This book is a delight to read. From the first chapter, "Knitting myself
back together" to the last chapter called "Of a piece", she combines folk
lore with sensible tips for knitting. The book delivers the notion that
knitting can be much more than crisscrossing and weaving string with two
sticks. She presents a feeling of calm, similar to the one found in the act
of knitting. She explores the practical and esoteric elements of knitting,
side by side, in a spirited fashion. She includes, for the practical minded
reader, an introduction discussing just what knitting is, ending each
chapter with "Try this", ideas and reasons for knitting that you won't find
in traditional knitting books. She includes How to get started, basic
patterns, and a well put together index. The book explores the art of
knitting beyond the dimensions of the usual knit one, purl one. I found this
book to be well worth the $10.95, a small price for a glimpse at knitting
from a fresh, inventive point of view! ~~Maggie Kiehl

Thanks Maggie
