Default Movin' on up...

Another convert. You have been saved from beadmaking hell. Take the money
you were spending on MAPP gas & in a month or two you can get a dream kiln
to go with it.

Hi all,

(but mainly of interest to lampworkers)

I just wanted to "announce" that I have just moved from a hothead torch to

a
minor propane-oxygen setup, and it is such an improvement! Still getting
the hang of the new flame, but already happy with how much better

controlled
it is. But I must admit that the most immediate benefit is the noise, or
rather, the lack of it. I don't have to wear earplugs anymore, nor have

the
CD player blasting inhumanely. (Kind of hard to get into a good calm
creative zen beadmaking mood when you have to blast the mellow music to
higher decibel levels than airliners taking off.) I'm also very much
enjoying not having to change out a mapp gas bottle every few beads, not
having all the empties rattling around at my feet, not having to figure

out
how to try to use up the last bit of the expensive gas, not running out of
gas in the middle of a bead... you get the idea.

So, anyway, you beginning lampworkers --- once you're committed to it and
can swing the initial costs --- I highly recommend moving on from your
hothead. (Oh, also nice that propane is about 40 times cheaper per pound
than MAPP gas in the little bottles...)
