I would like to get started learning chip carving. What would you
recommend for equipment and books to get started with. I prefer to
get excellent quality tools up front rather than upgrade later on. Any

Along with the Alpine site, which is Wayne Barton's who I guess is referred
to as the Father of Chip Craving in the USA, try taking a look at Dennis
Moor's web site,Chippingaway, he's in Kitchener, Ontario, Canada and is
looked upon as the equivelent of Wayne Barton in Canada, it's a quite
extensive wood carving supply web site.
The beauty of Chip Carving is the minimal amount of tools required, usually
only two knives, a cutting knife and a stab knife, a method of sharpening
them, usually a ceramic stone or two and a few drawing instruments like a
pencil, compass or maybe a circle template, a ruler and a eraser (G). There
rae a number of chip carving books and tools available on Dennis Moor's
site

There are other Chip carving experts out there, but the two mentioned are
most likely the most well known in North America.
